Im not resetting the phone. I have a line with an upgrade available so when the phone I want becomes available, this thing will go in a drawer on the back up line plan. At that point, I will slick it to factory and use it if the need arises.

Not really sure what the issue is with doing a factory reset lol. I do factory resets all the time. There are hundreds, if not thousands of ways to back your info up and make it even easier.

Factory resets are typically suggested by all manufacturer's after doing a software update as they don't have ways of testing every update for every phone configuration possible.

Really, it's not that big of a deal.

This may or may not help you. It did help me when my phone is sometimes laggy. How much free space do you have in internal storage? You should have at least 2 GB or your phone will be slow. Move files to the SD card (if you have one). Delete the Trash on your emails. Do you have a lot of Apps running in the background? You can stop ones you don't need running in the background by going to Settings>go to Battery>Save Power> choose Apps that you want to save power with by closing. This will speed up your phone some. You can also open the MyVerizon app>select Devices>click on the phone you have> choose Run Device Health Check> Go to Storage>select Clear All. This can speed up your phone also. You can also go to Performance and see if any apps are using a lot of resources. You may have an app or two that did not update properly and are sucking resources. You may have to uninstall and reinstall some apps. See what apps are using a lot of power. Just some suggestions. Hope it helps.

Thanks for the tips. Hey Verizon tech, maybe write some of this down?

I currently have 5+G of space free. I am going through and uninstalling unused apps just to free up the extra clutter. One of my biggest issues is the pull down menu from the top of the screen. Is anyone else having issue with this? It takes 4 or 5 tries to pull that darn menu down sometimes. I've never had a phone give me so much trouble with that. There are other issues but that one is just baffling.

Passwords, resetting to a familiar mode, the Verizon back up always screws up my contact list (even when setting up a new phone), then there is having to catch the IT person to set up my work email. I went through this a while back on a device and went ahead and did the factory reset. It's just a tedious pain in the backside (for lack of a better word) and if the software isn't tested, why are they pushing it?

Here is the other, principle side, of this issue. I didn't want this phone in the 1st place. As a former Note 7 owner, I was put in a position to settle for a phone with little incentive for settling. Yeah they gave us a few bucks to stay with Samsung (I had to call and fight with customer service to get it to happen), but we still got a phone, locked into a 2 year deal, and now have something that kind of works as advertised. Imagine you went to buy a Corvette and due to a factory recall you were forced to take a Kia (any model, who cares) and live with it for 2 years or pony up full price to release yourself from this sub standard purchase. Then, the A/C in the Kia kind of blew cold air. You could bring it in and have a new A/C system put in but you would probably have to pick up some tools and pitch in to get it done. Then the seat doesn't adjust. They weren't able to test the seats since everyone's rear end is different. Then maybe the doors lock every other time so you have to manually test them every time you lock the car instead of allowing the keyless entry that was advertised as a feature of the car to work. How inclined would you be to accept this fate?

ZUKZEHIM, thanks for your time and patience through all of these troubleshooting steps. We know that you want to try everything possible before going into the factory reset. I agree with that. When did you first notice the lagging and malfunctions with your phone? Did you download any applications or files at around that time? Have you tried using the phone in safe mode yet?

Some issues, such as trying to pull down the top menu have been from day 1. Takes 4 or 5 tries most days. The other issues mostly stem from the time around the update.

ZUKZEKIM, You were asked to do the factory reset, because generally issues that occur after an update will be fixed by resetting the phone. That is what the factory reset does. If the majority of issues started after the software updated the factory reset is the next best step.

If you refuse to do that we can only accept that. However, you can also try putting the phone into safe mode > http://vz.to/2t4heTw   Does the phone work like it should in safe mode?

Hi ZUKZEKIM I hear you on that Note 7 Deal I think we all got a little burned on that one. I too had the note 7 and ended up with S7 edge. Not really happy with it even before all these updates. It seems like my S5 was faster if I went into the settings-storage it would tell me right off how much was in the cached data. With the edge it takes at least 30 seconds or so to tell me.Have you tried the Smart Switch for a backup? I had to use that a lot for the S5 and seem to work a lot better then Verizons backup. Just thought I would throw in my 2 cents since I know exactly what you are going through. Don't know if you heard or not but the Note 8 will be out soon but from what I heard it will be like a thousand dollars ( wow to see that in writing ) but the good news is the refurbished note 7 will be around $500. but with a smaller battery. I hope you get some kind of satisfaction with your phone mess soon.
