So here's a classic case of "be careful what you wish for."  I finally received the OTA update for my S4 this morning and decided to begin the install during my commute into work. The update appears to have installed, but now I have the message "Unfortunately, the process android.process.acore has stopped."....The update has effectively turned my phone into a paperweight.  I can't even put in my password to unlock my home screen without having to accept the error message 5-6 times.  I took my phone into a local Verizon store, but as usual, the person I spoke with was useless, rude and unapologetic; his best advice was to wipe the phone and start over.  I'll stop there because my feelings towards Verizon's terrible customer service practices are neither here nor there.  I just wanted to get the message out that if you receive the update and choose to install, you may be in for an unexpected surprise.

Thanks for your message "cjmauney0511"  Have you been able to get past the error message?  If you can may to a hard factory software reset.  You did not state if you ever got past the error message.  Sorry to hear about the way you were treated by VZW at their store.  I experienced that 2 times and I never frequent those stores anymore.  Sure do hope you are able to get your phone back into service.

Hi japetty.  I was finally able to get past the error by doing a hard factory reset.  It wasn't something that I wanted to do, but it did correct the problem.  As a note, I found some advice on a few android forums from other users who had experienced similar problems.  Most had commented that by navigating the following path:

SETTINGS>>MORE (top right of the screen)>>APPLICATIONS MANAGER>>(scroll over to) ALL>>CONTACTS STORAGE

and selecting "CLEAR DATA", the error would go away.  This did work momentarily but the error returned.  However, what appeared to happen in my case was that all of the applications were listed twice; almost as though the update installed new versions of applications without removing the old file which is what I think caused my error to return.  Thought I would share that tip as an alternative to try first before completely wiping the phone.

Really glad you were able to get your phone back and be able to keep your original phone and not have to get one of the VZW refurbished phones.  Thanks for letting us know how you were able to do it.  Good advice.
