Received supposed VZW message saying the email app on my SIII will "not be available after March 16." Is this legit?

I also received a similar email and txt message.  I would like some additional information on what is happening and I have not yet been able to find it.

I too received an email from Verizon about a week or so ago which stated the following:Your email app won't be business as usual anymore.  As of March 16, 2016 the email app on your device may no longer be able to send and receive messages.  There are steps you can take to see if your device is impacted. 

The message continues from there.  It does not tell you how to find out if your phone is impacted by this supposed change.

I have three phones on my plan.  Which one are they talking about?  Are they all effected?  What do I need to do?  Is this just a means of getting me to upgrade one of my phones?

I have three devices on my plan, a Samsung Galaxy SIII, Samsung Galaxy S5 and an LG Exalt.  All are used for personal email by the three users.  We use AOL primarily and Gmail is secondary.

Did this letter come directly from Verizon Wireless? You say that it provides other details. Does it say that a particular email service will be affected? What does the other part of the letter describe?
