Smart Switch transfer from S8 to S9

Just got a new S9, When I do the activation I don't want the apps automatically restored, I want to do it with Smart Switch. Do I change the setting on the old S8 before the S9 activation to stop it?

just don't select "apps" to be xferred to new phone!!!
