Kathy 65793, I think you remember me.  I still haven't done the Nougat update.  I'm sure that's part of the my S7 is eating battery.  For example, I is down to 87% after 2 hours of very little use.  The Android System used 28% during this time.  I haven't cleared the cache partition (volume up-power-home) because the last time I tried, I got a system upgrade message.  I thought that meant it was doing the Nougat download so I immediately turned the phone off.  Did I not wait long enough to get the clear system cache choice?

Hi jrh4054 have not seen you in awhile on here but yes I remember you.

When I put my phone in recovery mode I get that little icon that says something

about updating system but it is not downloading anything. Your phone maybe

different because you have not gotten the update. I thought at one time you did

what to do the update? When I do the recovery mode it stays on that updating screen

for awhile however and when I first did that after an update I thought my phone was going

to be messed up. It said at first that it failed the update and just stayed there for a long while.

It eventually went to the recovery screen and I was able to do the clear cache partition. When

I restarted the phone everything was ok. However if I go into the recovery mode to this day

it still makes me wait while it says the update failed and takes awhile to go to recovery mode.

If you do this and once your phone reboots if you go into applications in your settings

just go down to setup wizard and force stop it it should stop that update notice that you get

for your phone to update.I am really surprised that your phone has not updated itself yet because

the last update back in December my phone did it by itself. The only reason I know this is because I

picked it up while it was in the middle of it. I had the mobile data off and the wifi off and it still

did it without any input from me. Let us know how you make out. I do think that 28% android system maybe

because that you did not update yet. Try force stopping that setup wizard and see if that makes any difference.

I rely on my phone to function properly and definitely want your device to hold a charge properly, JOSWAL58. Let's take a closer look into this and figure out what's going on. Please complete a device health check and provide details on any areas not in green, http://spr.ly/6584DKZAI. Have you recently added any new apps or updates? Has there been any damage to the phone?

Thanks for the long explanation.  I stopped receiving update reminders months ago.  So, I don't need to stop the setup wizard, which shows as disabled.  When I click on System updates, I get 'Software update is temporarily unavailable'. Maybe that's because the setup wizard is disabled.  I don't know how to enable it.

Now, my only concern is battery usage.  Other than that, the phone is working perfectly.  Do you think clearing the cache partition might help the battery usage problem?  I'm due for an upgrade in March.  Samsung may announce the availability of the S9 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month.  If I have to go through the misery of setting up a new phone, I don't want to essentially do it twice by having to do a FDR with the S7 should I chose to do the Nougat update and it fails.

Areas that didn't turn up green:

Storage - said I had too many temp files; mostly for Clash Royale.

Performance - said Clash Royale is preventing from going into sleep mode.

I've played Clash Royale on the phone for years and never had a problem. Maybe it's something with a recent update?

I did a factory reset last night (nice long 3 hour process to get everything reinstalled) and today it did it again. This time it waited until it was at about 20% (it seemed to do it about 40% before).

The weird thing is it isn't consistent; battery drain is normal until it gets to some threshold (40% / 20% like I said), then all of a sudden it falls off a cliff like the image I uploaded before.

Any thoughts?

Sorry about the explanation was playing around with the fonts then could not change it back.

You maybe right about the setup wizard. There are 2 setup wizards if you have show system apps.

The first 1 you can disable the second you can't. Not sure why you can't enable it.I guess if you went into it you can't clear data data in the storage.I have no doubt that clearing the cache partition would help with that battery drain. When I first learned about this and tried it my battery life doubled. Plus I had a lot more room on the phone. I know with the S7s that should not be a problem but I had the S5 at the time. I guess if it is working perfect other then the battery and your getting a new phone soon I wouldn't mess with it then.

No worries about your explanation.  I very much appreciate your knowledge and willingness to share it with me.  The system setup wizard isn't disabled.  I may try to clear the system cache again.  I really have no issues with the S7 and were it not for these problems I wouldn't upgrade to the S9.  It will be expensive, although what I've read would indicate that the cost will be about the same as the S8.

Have you tried to force stop Clash Royale to see if that helps. When I googled this app it says it is 1 of the top 10 apps that will drain your battery. Maybe if you force stop it when you are not playing it this may help the battery drain.  It is weird that the app is stopping it from going into sleep mode Have you tried going into the app and take back some of the permissions the app has.Like you said about update of the app they must have changed something. .

@JOSWAL58 We know how important it is to have your device work properly. I'm curious how does your phone perform if you remove the Clash Royale application without reinstalling it?
