SDM Update failure

Everyday for about a week or more I have been getting a notice saying something about an SDM program update. Every time it comes I hit the appropiate button to start the install and it does so. My problem is that every time I do this the install always ends up in a "error", then the phone reboots and hangs on the verizon start up screen forcing me to take off the case and back to remove the battery so that it will once again reboot, at which point (at least so far) it boots normally and is functional. Going through this EVERY DAY is starting to get very anoying and Im worried it could damage my phone that is not under warranty or insured in any way. Thank you for any help. My phone is a galaxy S4 running Android 5.0.1

We understand how important it is to have a working device. Please save your information on the phone to the Verizon Cloud or another server and do a factory reset on the Samsung Galaxy S4. Attempt to update the device after doing this step and restore your content to your device after.
