I am not in a contract now - pay month by month using an older phone. If I pay retail for the S8, will I then be under contract? Can I still get insurance on the device?
Verizon Wireless doesn't really have contract service at this point.
If you purchase an S8 for retail and bring it to Verizon Wireless to establish service, you can choose any of the current plans and should be able to cancel with no penalty provided your account is up to date.
I suspect that Asurion will issue S8 insurance at some point.
You won't technically be under contract but, if you opt for the payment plan, you will have to finish paying off the device if you decide to cancel service.
