Problems with July 1 Security Update

I installed the latest update (G935VVRU4BQG1) on August 1st.  Since then all my notifications are wonky.  The little notification badges on the icons either don't show up or won't go away.  I am unable to install updates or new apps from the Play Store with out rebooting or Force Stopping the play store app.  This happened after the last security patch and I finally convinced my local Verizon to store to replace the phone under warranty assuming something was wrong with it.  It's obvious to me now this is a software issue.  In my attempts to fix it I have cleared the cache on the affected apps including the badge updater.  I have cleared the phone cache from the recovery menu.  Nothing seems to help. Is anyone else having these types of issues?  Any help, suggestions or just a soft shoulder to cry on would be helpful.

Clyde, yours are just the latest issues caused by the Nougat update.  Your problem with the Play Store is a new one.  I suggest you read the posts on this board about all the problems S7 uses have had, and are still having, after doing the Nougat OS update.  I will continue delaying installing Nougat.

Clydewilson4, software updates are meant to improve your device. I regret to learn you are experiencing difficulties with your phone after the update. I noticed you advised, you took the phone to the store to replace. Did you receive a replacement device or is there a replacement device on its way to you? What exactly happens when you try to install an app via the Play Store? Are you no longer receiving notification to specific apps or all apps on your phone?

Thank You,

I had the phone replaced about 6 weeks ago in the store after the last security update caused issues. The latest security update has caused the same problem.  Notifications are messed up for all apps including email, SMS, facebook and instagram.  When I download a new app from the Play Store it downloads and then hangs, the app will never install unless I force stop and restart the play store app.  It does this on new app installs as well as upgrade to existing installed apps.  The phone will also go into "high performance" mode for no reason, especially when the battery is low.

Thanks for the additional information, clydewilson4. It's important we get your phone working again as it should. Let's continue to dig into this and ensure you can access apps properly. Please complete a device health check and advise of any alerts in red or yellow, http://spr.ly/65878Qm7R. Have you completed a reset on your device at all?

Did they give you a new phone or refurbished one? You would think by now they would have figured out why one phone can take an update and nothing go wrong and why some phones just can't take even something like a security update.I know that they will have to do something since any New phone that you buy will cost over a thousand dollars. My phone cost over $900. and that is it for me I can't take crossing my fingers and praying that no damage will be done by updating . The best thing that I learned with updates is to always have a backup of the entire phone on smart switch or one of the backups for your phone. I like to use the computer since I don't trust the cloud. With all the bugs there and the data it could use I just use my computer and flash drive just to be safe. It sounds like you did everything they say do do clearing the cache and rebooting and all but it doesn't always work. I hope your new phone finally starts working like it should and if it doesn't Samsung or Verizon sticks around to make sure that it does.

Ran the device health check.  It got no yellow alerts and 2 reds.  One was for the verizon security and privacy app not being configured and the other was for 59megs of temp files.  I cleared the temp files.  I have done a full reset of the device and flashed the ROM the using the Samsung Smart Switch software.

clydewilson4, we appreciate you running that health check and taking those additional steps. Have you noticed any difference in your device since doing so. If not, please go into the App Manager and see if you have the option to clear the cache and data for your TouchWiz launcher. Since the badge notifications are part of TouchWiz, we may need to attack that issue from the source. When you cleared the data for the Google Play Store did you only perform that option for the Play Store app or for the other Google Play services shown in the Application Manager as well? If you have more than one Google Play option listed, please clear the data for all of them. Is the device still going into High Performance Mode?

OK, I just went in cleared the cache for the TouchWiz services and rebooted.  Upon reboot I got all kinds of notification, emails that had not shown up on the phone were suddenly there.  Facebook notifications for the last few days that hadn't show up are now here.  Not sure if its a fix but will keep an eye on it.  As for the play store app I just cleared the cache on the Play Store app.  The device is still going into high performance mode randomly.  I did it last night right before bedtime when the battery was around 10%.

Thanks for this update as we want your device to run with high performance as much as possible, Clyde. It does sound the steps you did last night helped to make a difference.  Our phones at times may need some actions performed like you did to keep them running in tip-top shape. It's a good idea to keep an eye on your device and post back to us if needed. How does that sound? Can I help you with anything else this afternoon?
