If your application is up to date, let's have you delete the application and reinstall it fresh. That can allow the application to load without all the glitches that you're experiencing now. I presume it didn't come on your phone, and you downloaded it.
Settings | Applications Manager | Downloaded Apps, find Swype, long-press on it. Choose Uninstall.
