My S4 can't connect to my computer anymore?

When I try to connect my phone to the computer it tries to see it, almost makes it and then loses it.  And this repeats and repeats.  And now, it doesn't respond at all when I connect it to the USB.  I have the latest driver but it will not connect to my computer.  It's almost as if the USB port is tired but it charges just fine?  How will I transfer my data to my new phone (if I ever get one)?  Waiting impatiently for the Samsung Note 6 to get here!

We are here for you. Are you still having the same issue with your computer? You mentioned “how would you transfer your data to a new phone”. Are you using Verizon Cloud as a way to back up your phone?

No I am not using the cloud.  But I should be able to connect my phone via USB offload stuff to my computer to free up space and it will not connect to my computer at all.

I tried connecting my S4 to my Microsoft Surface 3. Once connected, the S4 started to charge from  the S3 and my S3 indicated that it saw the S4 and provided a set of options as to what could be done with it.

When you connect your S4 to your computer, do either of these things happen? If not, what does hsppen?

Well it does start charging but the computer does recognize it.  It has no reaction whatsoever.

crrice6640, well where the phone is charging when plugged into the USB port might be a good indication that the cord is good? This driver that you updated, how did you go about the update and where did you get the driver?

Right click on Start in the lower left corner of the computer screen and select Device Manager. From within Device Manager expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers and see if you have USB Mass Storage Device. If so right click on it and go to Properties, then click on the Driver tab and update driver, now restart the computer.

With the phone plugged into the USB port see if the computer now recognizes it, also while doing this look at the phone screen to see if it's asking for Permissions, if so allow.
