Is there a fix in sight for the horrible Android 4.3 update?

My phone updated several weeks ago and I noticed that suddenly the battery life was pretty short. I thought it might be a bad battery so I replaced it. No joy! Then I noticed that the flash was suddenly just firing randomly when the phone was sitting not in use. So I started digging around and found out I'm not the only one with issues (I thought my phone might be going). So I did the hard reset suggested by the Verizon customer support people and guess what, it got worse. So the question is, what is Verizon/Samsung doing about this crappy update? Is there a fix in sight? Are they even working on one? Do I need to start taking my phone to the Verizon store daily and complaining in person?

I keep hearing that the reason they update the phones software is to ensure reliable service but if the battery is constantly dying in a few hours due to a flaky update how can that be defined as "reliable service"?
