Hello Verizon Support,
Have Verizon, Google and/or Samsung been discussing when text message ringtones will be added back to the native Contacts app so we are not forced to use third party text messages in order to get text messages ringtones

@Trinette_VZW,
What does the latest software going to do to bring back a feature that was deliberately removed! There a millions of Android users around the world that use the individual text message ringtones and for Google to remove it and for VZW to just "accept" what Google says is unbelievable. But I suspect that the feature will not return anytime soon so it might be time to switch to an iPhone.

Bruce27u01, you have described the Oreo fiasco perfectly! What is totally unbelievable is Google removing such popular options as notification customization and then not fixing it after so many S7,8, and 9 users complained so loudly about it. And just as unbelievable is VZW not demanding that it reverse some of the changes that users are so unhappy about.

It appears the the issue is not going to be fixed nor is either VZW, Google or Samsung care much to fix the issue. In addition, it appears that the option will not appear in future OS update. This might be a great time to switch to iPhone. It's a terrible way to treat loyal customers.

I totally agree with your comment about VZW's treatment, or lack of considerate treatment, of their loyal customers. However, I would have to think long and hard before going to an iPhone. I'm the only one in my family who doesn't have one. My overriding complaint about the iPhone is the absence of the back button. Other than a few apps that have a back arrow at the top of the screen, to go back you have to leave the app and go back into it. After years of having the back button, I find this process to be a real pain.

We want you to be happy with your phone, Bruce27u01. Although this is working as designed, we have lifted the feedback from our customers regarding the removal of this option. At this time, the ability to customize individual text message ringtones can be managed with the Samsung Messages application, Verizon Message+, or other third party apps.

@VZW Support,
The problem is not in the native text message app; the problem is in the native Contacts app of the device. The text message ringtone feature is no longer available in the native Contacts app of the device.
It is ABSOLUTELY unacceptable to be "force" to download yet another third party messaging app just to get the pleasure of using a feature that was available in the native app that comes with the phone. The text message ringtone feature was available for as long as I have been using Samsung devices being driven by the Android OS.

If that is all I have to deal with but get back the text message ringtones then I can live with that. I do not see Apple removing the feature but see no real effort by Google to put the feature back.

Unfortunately, Oreo removed the ability to customize any notifications, including ringtones.
