I hate the new 8.0 update on my Galaxy 8 phone.

They took away my individual notification alerts for texts. My husband's galaxy 7 cell didn't get affected. Is someone going to fix this? I also can't figure out the badge thing. My email and FB used to show the number of emails/posts I had without there being a notification on my lock screen. I took the notification off my lock screen and left the badge thing on but I don't get my new email count anymore. I am super frustrated.

When an update makes unexpected changes, it’s definitely a concern, JENABE90. You’re in the right place for some answers. Tell us more about where you were able to customize text tones in the past. When you go to that same area on the phone now, what options do you see? Prior to the update, were both your husband’s and your phones on the exact same software? What app are you using for text messages? Is the app up to date with the device’s software?

Along the same lines, you mentioned the change in notifications from email and Facebook. Have you checked to be sure both of those apps are on the most current update? Since the overall update, have you powered off your S8 for at least a minute?

I have the same problem. Prior to the update I was able to personalize text notifications under the contact. (Go to contact, click edit, more options, text tone - just like you can personalize ringtone). It's very frustrating that this was taken away.

I apologize for the frustration you're having with the text notifications issues with your device, Dottij3. Let me look into this concern. I see the settings you're referring to and apologize that option was removed. Perhaps in the next software release, some changes could be present to allow this feature to work without any confirmation one way or the other. I hope this helps with the concern.

Also, when you long pressed an app, there was an option to clear badge  that's not there anymore.

I also will complain that I used to get just the badge notifications without it filling my notification bar. Yes my apps are up to date

It's certainly important for your phone to be working as it should, and is designed to, JACQUIESCHMUDLACH. Updates are not supposed to cause these issues.

Can you tell me exactly when this started happening with your badge notifications? Have you done any troubleshooting? If so, what have you done?

VanessaS, apparently you haven't been reading anything on the S8 Community about the Oreo update and what it did TO S8's not FOR the phones.  It took away many of the personalization of notifications.  This is just another example of what major OS updates do to phones.

jrh4054, your device experience is very important to us, so we would like the opportunity to address the individual concerns about the customization. There was a change made to move the text ringtone customization for contacts to the text apps. We verified this is working as designed with the current software update. Customers can no longer set custom notification sounds in Contacts. Verizon Message+ or the Samsung Messages application has an option to set notification sounds by contact within the application. Certain other 3rd party messaging applications may also have this functionality.
Please go to Message+ > Menu > Customize > Tones > Sound, that will change the default notification sound for all messages in Message+.
To change the tone only for a specific contact in Message+ go to Message+ > Message thread for desired contact > Menu (3 dots in upper right) > Customize > Tones > Sound and then select the desired tone for that contact. Are there any other customization options we can help you find?

DavidC_VZW, I am convinced the none of you people read the threads you interject yourselves into.  I wasn't commenting about a specific issue.  I was making a general observation about the very often negative affect major OS updates have on phones.
