How do you block Android 9.0 update?

I can see the update is available on my Samsung Galaxy S9+ phone.  I think because I have *not* been on Wifi recently, it has not downloaded the update yet.  And so, it has not forced me to do the update.  I see reports of a few problems and want to skip this update, at least for right now.  Can anyone tell me how I can block this update from installing?  My phone is *not* rooted.

You can stop the download, but you have to do it every day.  I did it with my S7 because of issues I read about here.  My phone hasn't been updated for over a year and it's working well.  These system updates very often cause serious problems, some of which can't be fixed. I know this isn't the way it is supposed to work but unfortunately it happens way too often.  You'd think the manufacturers would have figured this out long ago.

You can't and why would you want to do that?

There are several reports of problems just in this forum.  I'll keep googling to see if this OS is stable.

I'm stating the obvious, but this update could fix a lot of problems or cause new ones.  I've previously had problems with the power saving feature that would cause trouble with networked apps.  And I have Pandora which I use a lot which shouldn't be affected by an OS upgrade but who knows.

Maybe it will fix the power problem, maybe not.  If there is no way to back out, it could be pretty painful.

Change the settings on your device to manual update instead of auto.

zitsky,

Having a phone you can rely on is always crucial. We certainly don't want to see you have issues with an update. Those are meant to solve issues, not cause them. Updates can often be delayed when the option comes up on your phone but there is no way to fully block them and at a certain point that will be needed to make sure your phone keeps running like it needs to. We're glad to help with any issues with your device. What issues are you having with power saving and networked apps? What apps are you having those problems with?

you want to know why anyone would want to block an update.

on my J7 after the update. I have to answer all calls blind, as it will not display who is calling on a locked screen, if i am on the phone i get a pop up.  this is also true for all other notifications.  i have to go into the massaging app to view who texted me.   Verizon told me a hard reset of the phone should fix the issue,  it did not, just wiped out all my personal settings, which were not restored from the backup.

so i dont want my other phone to install pie.

As someone who takes frequent calls myself, I realize how important the Caller ID feature is to a phone.  Let’s get to the bottom of this ASAP.  A private message has been sent to you for further assistance.

I want to block Pie on my S7 (if it is planned) because I rely on call recording apps and Google blocks them from working in Pie.

The S7 is not on the list of Android phones to get the pie update. The phone is too old and will not receive any more OS updates, however  security updates will continue to come.
