I have been able to store data, pictures & music on my SD card, but then I am unable to view or listen to what is there. Seemingly the only thing that I can do is to remove the card and download the data to my pc, and then transfer it back to my phone. This seems rather redundant to me. Please help,

I suggest leaving the card in the phone, plugging into the PC and looking at the device in My PC/Computer and looking in the Internal and External card locations. Might be you are saving your files to the internal as well in some cases. No use in taking the card out, unless you have to.

Truly, I am wanting to actually use the SD memory for my music and photos, and to be able to use them there, that way I can use my phone's internal storage for . . . apps etc.

Might be you aren't saving them in the folders that the phone searches for when looking for available files. Windows Media Player can sync music and pictures fine for me, and you might even use Samsung Kies to do the same thing. Either way, you can always drag and drop those files into the Pictures or DCIM folder and Music into the Music folder and the stock phone player/gallery should find them. If not, try a third party app just to test the theory.

Thank you. I have the Kies program. These problems have arisen with transferring data to the sd card. Will this be different?

Perhaps you need to reformat the card within the storage options in your phones settings menu.
