Pull down the notification bar and click the table to the right of the settings wheel.  GPS is the second selection.  You can toggle it on and off there.

The battery life is not fixed. Prior to the update I experienced much better battery life with GPS enabled in high accuracy mode and allowing Google to determine location without GPS. I am aware that not using GPS in high accuracy mode will extend the battery life as well as keeping the WiFi toggle off. This is useless though as the battery drain with those on was not severe prior to the update and is now severe since the update with no improvement on NK1. A hard reset is unacceptable. My wife has the same phone and has different GPS and location settings and is experiencing the same rapid battery drain. This still needs fixed.

For me, the problem was significantly alleviated by going to Best Buy and having the Samsung guy flash the software. Now Verizon wants to push this pointless update, and bugs me multiple times daily to install it, but I don't want to unless it's going to fix my problem, because I'll have to schlep back to Best Buy.

Anyone know how to permanently disable Verizon update notices?

Per my other posts, my GPS settings were and are set to high accuracy. That is how it was set prior to the updates so changing the GPS settings isn't really a fix. You're going to get better battery performance by doing so, both before the update and after. Just like turning off the WiFi toggle. So downgrading services from prior to the update to compensate for the update is not really a fix. If none of us use the phone and don't cause the screen to come on we will save battery as well.  Maybe you weren't using high accuracy mode prior to the update but I was.

I have been delaying the NG6 update daily for months.  Unfortunately, there is no way to stop the notices.  From what I read in the VZW Community, the NK1 update was supposed to fix the NG6 issues, but for some users, hasn't.

According to the release notes for NK1 all it addressed was a VPN connectivity issue and a power-cycle issue.

I turned off all of the verizon apps and for a day my phone battery seemed to last pretty good.  Now the OS is killing it again.  I have been off charger for 7 hours down to 47% and the OS used 50%.  So I can't go to work and then go out at night without charging my phone.  This really sucks!

So glad I found this thread! I rarely even have issues with my Galaxy S4  that I have to do research, but since the update, my battery life has been almost nonexistent. 100% at 8 AM, 40% at 11 AM. (Battery death?) Even the Verizon app says the phone will be dead at 2 PM. I did get rid of that app (and it wasn't easy either! Like frakkin malware!)  Anyway, battery life a little better, but still draining fast. Verizon, why no response to this???

After trying to figure what was causing the overheating and poor battery life with no luck, I reset my phone yesterday and restored via the Samsung Kies 3.0 software.  Since the restore, the battery life has been excellent (back to normal) and without the phone overheating.  The restore is fairly easy and only took around 30 minutes or so.

Not sure if anyone else has tried this, but it has helped me so far.

I had the same problem after the latest Android update and I've figured out what my problem was. I appears that there is a conflict with the latest Android update and a program on my phone. I had the Avast antivirus app on my Samsung Galaxy S4 phone and my battery was continuously overheated and my phone memory was all used up. My phone stated that the Avast antivirus program was using 40% of my battery and after deactivating that program I found that I no longer have the battery overheating issue. I think the issue with the Kit Kat update is that there is conflict with certain apps and it creates issues after updating.  It may be a a single program app or it my be several apps. I had a printer that would no longer work after updating to Windows 8 because of issues with the latest version and the driver for that printer.  The manuafacture of the printer stated that they were working on a fix but for not the printer would not work with Windows 8.  It turns out that the antivirus program was on a continuous run and because the program never stopped it overheated my phone.
