Email only syncs one-way on my S3

My email (Yahoo) doesn't work both ways- If I delete something on the computer it still shows up in my inbox on my phone.  If I read something on my computer it still shows as unread on my phone. But I know its syncing because I still get new emails on the phone- the old ones just won't go away!  I never had this problem with my Sprint phone so this is all new to me.  I've deleted and re-added the account several times.  It works at first but doesn't last more than a couple of hours.

What email client/app are you using? The stock email, K9, Yahoo Mail, ... ?  Pop or IMAP?  I only use Gnail and K9mail, so I can't help with specific questions about the stock Email app or the Yahoo app.  Without knowing the answers to these questions, you can try the following.  Look in settings for something like "Sync Server  Deletions", "Remove messages when deleted on the server", When I delete messages, delete from server", ... etc.
