Can you please let me know what steps you were taking to set up these notifications? What options do you see now when you attempt to set them up? The more details, the better, because then we can work toward finding a solution. Thanks in advance.

I would go to contact, edit, view more, in those options under Ringtone
there was an option that said message tone. When you clicked on it the
message tones would come up alliwong you could pick one for each contact
individually. That option is no longer there. I have had the same message
tones for years for family and work contacts. I don't understand why it had
to be eliminated.

I just tried this, there is no where to change SMS tone. It only allows to change the ringtone.
PLEASE GET THIS FIXED. I AGREE WITH THE OTHERS, I DON'T USE CALLING MUCH AND CUSTOMIZED TEST ALERTS ALLOW ME TO KNOW WHO IS TRYING TO REACH ME. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT AND WILL CAUSE ME TO GO TO A DIFFERENT CARRIER!
Sherwooddoggie, I know how important it is to make sure that you able to distinguish the text tones from one another. I want to make sure that we get everything addressed for you. You have to go tap the contact that you would like to edit. There's a "View More" at the bottom. Tap on that and there will be a section for contact ringtone and SMS tone. There you will be able to customize the sound that you would like to hear for your text messages that will be coming in.

From the number of comments about the loss of this feature with Oreo, why not go back to Samsung and/or Google and let them know about the user dissatisfaction? How about asking them to consider putting it back?

You and all the other tech support people, keep saying you can set a custom notification in the Samsung Messages app. You can not do this after the Oreo update. The only option there now, is to set a custom ringtone, which is different than a notification. Have any of you even looked to see what everyone is talking about, before saying it still works? If you have, you'd see the option is gone. You are correct that you can still set a custom notification for Messages+ though. Although, the update did [removed] up the LED notifications on Messages+. You can no longer get an LED color, other than blue, for text messages .

I want to thank you for your years of loyalty to the Verizon family, I am glad you love our service. We will definitely raise this concern up, Grammy678. Updates are always meant to improve your phone experience. I also want you to use whichever texting app you are comfortable with. At this time, only Samsung has the ability to make changes to software. I can see that it is not just you, but many users who are not happy with this feature change with the recent update. I assure you we will do our best to provide feedback regarding this issue.
