Can I import contacts from a .csv file on my PC?

Hi. I am new to Verizon, new to Android, and just acquired an S4.  My old phone allowed me to back up my contacts to my PC as .a csv file.  I am hoping someone can tell me how to import these contacts to the S4.  My PC has Bluetooth, as well as (obviously) USB.  Thanks.

Contacts and calendar info on an Android phone work by being synced with your Gmail account and stored by Google (in the "cloud"). The way to get the contacts from that .csv file onto your phone is to do the following.

  1. On the computer, log in to your Gmail account in your Web browser.
  2. Click on the little downward arrow next to "Gmail" at the top left, and select "Contacts."
  3. Click on the More button and select Import....
  4. Browse to the csv file on your computer.
  5. Click Import, and it should import the contacts into your Gmail contact list.
  6. It's a good idea to look over the imported items (at least a sampling if there are a lot of them) and make sure everything looks OK.

On your phone, if you have your Gmail account set up to sync automatically the contacts from the csv file should appear after the next sync. You can force a sync by doing this:

  1. Go to the Home page, press the Menu key, and select Settings.
  2. Select Accounts, and then Google.
  3. Tap on the name of your Gmail account, and tap Sync now.
  4. While you're there, check that you have everything marked to sync that you want to sync. Calendar, Contacts, and Gmail are essential. Sync other items if you need or want to.

Hope this helps!
