Are there any success stories with KitKat upgrade for S4 (Mini)?

I see ton of horror stories with KitKat upgrade on S4. Is there anyone who actually had a successful upgrade? I am afraid to upgrade seeing everyone's problems. Should I just suck it up and not do the upgrade on S4 Mini?

No problems with the KitKat upgrade on my S4 Galaxy.  The OS seems to run smoother and I have been getting better battery life since I upgraded on April 25th.

Call and data reception is about the same as before and I have not had any dropped calls before or since the upgrade (I have had the phone since October).

My Galaxy Note 8.0 tablet also received the upgrade recently and I have seen no problems with that either.

Hope this helps

My S4 updated to KK 4 days ago and there has been no noticed problems. WiFi auto connects, with Wifi and data both on MMS and SMS files are sent and received. There is no recharging problems and battery life is now longer then before the upgrade, and there is no overheating problems.  3G/4G is always there and the call quality is just as good as before. I've only installed 6 apps on my phone and none of them are the (Make my phone run better than stock apps). I believe the key to getting a good install without problems is putting your phone back as close as you can to stock without doing the factory reset by deleting all the launcher, keyboard, messaging, and social apps then reload them after the update.

Hi,

I have only had problems. and 3 phones in the last 3-4 weeks. and 1 before that.

I love the size and that's a main reason I got it. Something is wrong to have that many phones. And I have reset, soft moded, flashed, reformat sd card, got a new sd card, and still the same problems. I've uninstalled the  5 apps I've put on there. I just can't tell you the nightmare trouble with this phone and Verizon.

TominqueBo,

The last 3 s4 mini's all have had Kitkat. The one before that got the

kitkat update which I down loaded to the phone.

I can send and receive calls.

I get "messaging stopped" when doing a lot of texts.

Texts come up "ghosted" meaning they have the text on the bottom and a

transparent one overlaid on top. they then become one. But I get the

ghosting most of the time when I go into a message from a contact to send a

text.

When I go to call logs or text logs, the numbers come up first, and then

then the names pop up randomly, meaning not in order down the page, until

they are all shown. lots of lag time.

It runs slow.

I have 5 apps on here. I should be able to have a lot of apps on here, and

play music, and have files, and...and....and.

I can get online but doing a Google search, when the page with the choices

comes up, it is blurred and I have to tap on the screen for it to become

clear and readable.

I get VZWAVS has stopped. (not sure if those are the right letters)

The status bar that is supposed to be gray with the new update, goes back

and forth between greenthe old osto gray. And I have found no

continuity with when I get green or when I get gray.

I went to my nearest Verizon corporate store this past Wednesday, in

Orange, California, and they said I had a bad phone and they made a note of

it in my files and showed me some options for other phones. I don't want

the Motorola one, I don't want a dark/black keypad dialer on the phone. I

don't really want "dark" anything although the "settings" page is

dark/black on the mini s4. they said I could possibly get a regular S4. I

chose the mini s4 because of it's size or I would have gotten a bigger one.

An S5 mini would work.

I get a black screen on occasion.

sometimes the proximity sensor doesn't work.

sometimes when I have my bluetooth on and have "hands free mode" on, I get

the a text message read through the headset and *also *through the handset.

I soft reboot often--turn it off wait a bit and turn it back on.

The rest of this email was what I put up on the forum:

I have gotten 3 galaxy s4 minis in about 4 weeks, not to mention the

original one, which makes it 4 phones that I have had in the last 8 months

or so. Most, not all, but most of the stuff that has been going wrong

happened AFTER the kit kat update.

They all have the same problems, I have soft booted, hard booted, safe

moded, factory reset and even gone to best buy and had 2 of them flashed.

I have had a discussion on line with Samsung, I have called too many times

to figure out, and gone into-again to many times to figure out--Verizon

stores.

I have reformatted my sd card. I have gotten a new sd card. with the second

to last phone I got a new sim card.

It's ridiculous. Samsung said there was something the matter with my phone

and wanted me to send it back; that would have taken 2 weeks for me to get

it back. That wasn't going to happen. So verizon sent me a new phone which

is the one I just activated Sunday, September 7, 2014. The next day it

acted up and it had a new sd card and I had uninstalled all the apps I had

on there, which wasn't more than 5.

I can pull up the email I wrote about everything that keeps happening with

these phones if you'd like.

I have read so many forums here, Android Central. etc.

I have come across others who have have done all that I have. Before I got

the last 3, I factory reset that phone 3 times.

This is just stupid! The common denominator now is Verizon.

I went into a store today and talked with them about this and they at my

phone and said it was software and hardware related and had nothing to to

with Verizon.

BUT....no one seems to have heard of problems with the s4 mini.

SO....what's up with mine?

After 4 phones, I know I am not crazy.

I want out of my contract. Verizon has not help up it's end of the contract

and provided me with a phone that works. I have spent more time trying to

figure out and get fixed what is wrong with my phones.

It's been a waste of my time and energy. I am supposed to be able to put

apps and pictures and music and many many things on this phone and I'm just

tired of setting it how I want it because I keep having to re do it.

I like the smallness of this phone but it doesn't work. Too much time,

energy, and money in this.

I want Verizon to cancel my contract because they haven't held up their end

of the bargain.

I'm not the only one with lots of problems with these phones; read the

forums and you will find many people.

Since there isn't a way to email Verizon for help, and when I call in, I

have to go through telling the rep whats going on, troubling shooting with

him/her, than being sent to tech support and having to go through the whole

thing again,

It looks like I have to actually send a letter through the United States

Postal Service!

Wow, what tech giant Verizon is that I have to reach them by mail.

I'm not happy. I want a phone that works and a company that will take the

time to see what's wrong or look up what's wrong, and/or suggest and help

me with something because I'm not doing this insanity anymore. Most of the

time the reps and techs have been supportive and/or helpful BUT...I still

have a phone that doesn't work and no one has been able to tell me why or

even tell me that others are having this problem. I get told something

different by most everyone I've talked to.

So after 4 phones, now what?????

Hi again,

I had the last one flashed and this one flashed and it seem to have been no

help.

This last one has a BRAND NEW Samsung SD card. The one before, I

reformatted the SD card because I'd had it for several years.

Seems to have made no difference.
