What color should the 4G icon be, on the status bar at the top of the Samsung S3 phone screen? (No WiFi).
On Motorola Droid phones, the 4G icon is blue.

I personally am connected to data, and it either goes grey or white on my end, it has never switched colors. You're talking only about the ICON right? Not the bars if signal?

Yes, just the icon, not the bars.
What makes the icon change between white and grey?
Thanks for your input!!

Generally it just disappears, but sometimes it turns grey as if it's "pending" connection, the bars will go grey too.

On devices that have enabled it, colored (or sometimes white) signal bars indicate that the device is connected to Google's servers, greyed out signal bars indicate that, while you may have a data connection, the device has not connected to Google's servers. This can happen when you connect to a public wifi but have not opened the browser to sign in, or when you have an inactive device that is finding signal, but does not have a connection.
