Where is our Advanced Calling 1.0?

Verizon needs to stop dragging their feet with the release of the software patch that will give us VOLTE.

the reality is software from the Google Play Store can ready effectively emulate AC 1.0.

You can get any number of VOIP phone dialers,  but my favorites are Vonage, Skype, Google Voice & Viber.

For Video Calling, I currently use IMO between my Note 4 & my wife's iPhone 6.  It's the closest thing I've seen to Apples Facetime.

Do Verizon, what gives?

Why are you giving the GNote 4, the love that it deserves.

There's a vast difference between those and the services you listed.  It uses your own number and uses the carriers backbone as a fallback.  Something the others don't do.  I know that AC1.0 people are waiting for(Myself included, and or state is probably one of the last to see this), but It's not all that easy as flipping a switch and uploading something to make it work.  I'd rather have them do it right the first time than do it quickly had things don't work right...

Looking at T-Mobile for my personal line for example.  I dislike the fact when I call it'll ring twice and that's it.  Even when receiving calls.  I turn off VoLTE the problem goes away(doesn't matter which device I use).

I don't think so.

VOLTE is going to use 4G LTE just like the listed services I mentioned.   If you look at the listing for IMO, it even says make video calls over 4G.  AC 1.0 video calls are going to do the same thing.

Also, VOLTE is not using the carrier backbone.  My understanding is its 4G or nothing.  If you fall out of a 4G coverage area, calls will drop.  The way I see it, if Verizon designed it to fall back to CDMA or 1x when outside 4G coverage (even if just briefly), then that would be the carrier backbone.

What you are talking about is WiFi calling, and YES it still uses the carriers backbone.  How else do you think your personal number is used.  It will use a internet connection to connect to their backbone and then forward the call through their network to whomever you are calling.  It doesn't use your internet providers backbone.  It's no different than what T-Mobile has been doing for years.  The reason why it doesn't hand off it because it turns off the radio to save battery and often 99% of the time if you have poor coverage you generally go out of range of a wifi before gaining connection outside or there would be no point in using wifi calling.  UMA is what you are looking for which is done via hardware, and does handoffs, but it works completely differently because of the hardware. It eats up battery as it has all networks running.  I used to run with a lot of BB with them when it was popular.

VoLTE is also using their backbone.  It's their LTE network.

I just read that Verizon is in the process of finally launching the long delayed Note Edge.

However, what's really troubling is their launching the Edge with Advanced Calling 1.0 pre-installed.

Come on Verizon, your Note 4 faithful have waited since it's October launch for AC 1.0...

why did you turn your back on us and disrespect us in this manner?

As this will be no surprise, I had a displeasing conversation with Verizon Customer Service.

I asked why the Note Edge has AC 1.0 out of the box and the Note 4 is still waiting.  There answer was just two words...

Wait for it...

"Blame Samsung"

Following that conversation, I called Samsung Support who transferred me to technical support.

As it turns out, all updates that do not require adjustments to Samsung products (Gear S watch or Gear VR), TouchWiz or the current Android Version are not released by Samsung.  They are solely carrier updates.

So the question is who to believe...

OK,  Verizon where is the update?

Something to ponder

HTC, Motorola, and Sony all went on record this past 2 years and said carriers are involved but not in the way a lot of places sensationalized it. Carriers do test against their network and do have options given to them by the manufacturer.  Ultimately everything written and submitted is from the manufacturer. Carriers take the blame because they know regardless if they are hands on or hands off people will blame them. See iPhone section and check out T-Mobile forums where BYOD is a common thing.

Personally I will not personally buy a Samsung product for their support and their code(it's terrible).

Oh and Yes I would blame Samsung. There's this thing called a development cycle. The Note EDGE was an after thought from the Note 4. It's on a different development cycle. If Samsung went with a modular design with their code both the EDGE and the 4 would be on the same cycle.

If I'm Ghost Rider, then that makes you Goose Tidbits.  This time around, I'm going to say no dice.

The Note Edge was not an after thought.  Both phones were featured during the Unpacked Event in Berlin.

Samsung didn't design the Note 4, then wait two months and say the Next Best Thing is a phone with a side scroll screen.

These phones were designed together, share a software lineage in TouchWiz &  Android.

This is typical Verizon behavior.  Push the current model and then come back and support all those that came before.

The Note Edge is a gimmick and it's never going to sell as many handsets as the Note 4 will.  The he case market is extremely sparse for the Edge.  Industry leaders like Seidio &  OtterBox aren't even designing for the phone.  They know it's not worth their time.

Verizon should do the smart thing and support a phone that can sell not a "snake oil" handset.

It was an after thought. We already know the Note 5 is coming at the end of the year correct? What about the EDGE 2? Did you know the EDGE 1 was coming around the same time the Note 4 was leaked?  Did you know it only takes a few months to make a device? It doesn't take the whole year. Some things to ponder on.

I have been developing on Samsung devices for years now and I have had to reverse engineer some of their code to fix problems the company I work for to get our security to work correctly. Their code between the two devices is roughly 3 months.
