Note 4 lollipop upgrade - now contacts won't sync

More than 24 hours after upgrade, I still get a spinning blue circle and "Upgrading contact list...".  It will not display my recent calls.  I have removed my gmail account and added it back in, still the same result.  Very frustrated as I use this device for a nonprofit that helps veterans and I'm virtually dead in the water right now.

It took almost 24 hours for mine as well. But eventually it did work. I did three things. 1 turn off the phone completely and then take out the battery for 30 seconds and then reboot. 2. open application manager and clear the cache and data from the contacts app. 3. turn off the phone completely and then hold power, volume up, and the home button until it vibrates then let go of the power button. You will be taken to a screen where you have the option to wipe the cache partition. Use the volume keys to move up and down and the power button to select this. You wont lose any data or contacts doing any of these 3 things. Good luck.
