Galaxy Note 2 and S3 wifi issues

I recently bought a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and S3. So far the phones are great but the wifi connectivity is weird. I can connect to my wireless router and establish that it has been assigned an ip, but i get no internet with either phone.

I've been looking for solutions for about 3 hours now and pretty much have come up with no working solutions.

I recently bought a new router (Linksys Cisco Wireless N900 Dual Band Router) and at first it was working with my note 2 but after about... 2 minutes the note 2 didnt recieve any internet.

I also didnt purchase my phones directly from verizon, but from amazon wireless. If i need to exchange the phones, think i could go to a verizon store or will i have to contact amazon?

Jkhaotic,

Woo Hoo! Congratulations on your new phones! I know how exciting it is to have two great new phones. Let's get this resolved. Is your routers WIFI signal working? Have any other devices been able to connect to the Routers wifi, and it works?( ex. laptop, desktop, gaming sysytem)
Before you return the devices, try taking both devices to a free wifi hotspot location(ex. library etc.) and attempt to make a connection, if the connection works then its your home router.  Hope this helps!

Thanks,

Just want to add into this discussion.  I also have recently upgraded to the Galaxy Note 2 and my wife has the S3.  Her wifi seems to be working okay but I am having all kinds of issues with the wifi on my Note 2.  It only seems to connect to my wifi router or any wifi routher when I am traveling if I have full signal.  Even then, it will connect and many times it will not pass traffic. Same results regardless if the router has encryption or no encryption.  This is true for any of the apps that I run that access the internet like, Play Store, Internet browser, or email.  For ALL of these applications, I use the default applications that came with the phone.

This is very frustrating and I seem to have to use my data plan more and more.

Has anybody found a fix for this issue?

Thank you,

Brien

You might try unlinking the phones from your router, then relinking them. The first link might not have connected properly. And as Pamelaf suggested try using a free wifi place such as Starbuck to make sure your phone's wifi is working correctly.

Have deleted and re-linked to my router many times with no improvement.  All other devices work perfect through my router as well..  As I mentioned, the phone behaves the same when traveling, and by traveling I mean, away from my house at hotspot locations.  It has failed at many Starbucks and other people's houses.  Their is no correlation between encrypted wifi or open wifi and the issue.  Sometimes it works but most of the time is fails.  Many times it will work for a short period and then fail.

Okay here is the fix that worked for me. I have a Netgear wireless router version WPN824. I connected my laptop to one of the LAN ports on the router. Then I entered this IP address for the router: http://192.168.1.1. Then I clicked wireless setting tabs on left. I then selected WPA2-PSK [AES].for...interferance there is in your local area from too many wireless routers broadcasting on the same or similar channel. I also have the "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" setting set to "always." Hope this helps.

I had a Motorola Droid Bionic and it connected to ANY WiFi network.  Now I purchased a Samsung Galaxy Note S2 and it will connect at home, at Scheels, on my train to/from work... but it takes 15-20 attempts to get it to connect at work.  I attempt it and it says "Secured, Saved" or "Authentication has failed" over and over.  After about 15-20 attempts it will finally connect to WiFi.  But as soon as I leave the building and come back in, it will not connect and I have to go through it all again.

I KNOW the password and correctly type it each time (it is saved correctly)

I have already tried a hard reset and it only made me eat up more of my data

This is obviously a problem with the phone's software or hardware and should be fixed.  I've never come close to using my data allowance and since the 5th I've used 66% of what I'm allowed.  Please fix this or find out what is going on.

Clobern I have the same exact issue and posted here. https://community.verizonwireless.com/message/996936 Everything worked fine until I put that last verizon software update on 4.x.x something. Your luck you connect after 15-20 tries. When I seen this I tried what you said and zip I got nothing. Hopefully verizon will fix this issue with their software or at least reply to all of these post with more information.
