Can I switch to a spare device if mine is broken?

So my phone is on its last leg. It's a Droid X and it is starting to bug out and the screen has got spots now. I have a family member who has offered me their Galaxy Note 2 as a replacement. It is a Verizon Note 2 so it is on the correct provider. How would I go about switching phones.

Also will this mess with my current verizon plan or will it be a simple ESN swap of the two phones.

Finally how can I go about this. I have seen some posts on doing it online or on the phone.

Would appreciate any help.

Congrats on the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. Having a reliable working phone is very important LostNet! I am happy to inform you that you may activate your device online via My Verizon. To sign into your My Verizon account online, click http://bit.ly/xB4iTc

Also I am on an Unlimited Data plan. I read from these responses that it will not effect the plan.
From what I have read currently and from the past there will be a hassle but in the end the data is data and it should not matter. Read that some people were told that they needed to upgrade their contract which was not true and in the end the did not need to.

@Rex0208

I can certainly understand your concern towards retaining your unlimited data. It's great news that you have a back up device handy. Moving to a 3G smartphone will not cause a situation where the unlimited data will be lost. Our data plans do not currently designate between 3G and 4G devices.

edwinb_dc, switching to another device is easy! You may activate a 4G device obtained by a 3rd party on your line with no change in your Unlimited Data plan. For your convenience, just click here http://vz.to/19obTY9  You will need to select the task to activate/switch to that 4G device. During this process, you will provided with the option to keep your existing data plan or switch to a new current plan.

For future references, if you upgrade to a new phone with promotional pricing http://bit.ly/zpAY1E , you will be moved to a current data plan. http://bit.ly/xdDajD I trust that this information is helpful to you.

Is the droid a 3G only phone? If so then you need to get a new SIM card for the Note 2. You can get them free at a Verizon store. Then do the ESN swap.
