4G weak but won't switch to 3G

My phone is constantly getting stuck between a weak 4G signal and 3g.  This occured after the last software update and conspiracy theory 101 tells me that this is Verizons way of trying to limit my unlimited data.  There should be an option to stay on the 3G network at all times.  This option is non existant on the Note 2.  The threshold to switch between 3G and 4G should occur without loss of data access.  Signal strength of 1 bar on the 4G network gives you practically zero connection capabilities and it will stay at this level without switching Indefinitely on most occassions. Restarting the phone helps sometimes but who wants to do that every 5 minutes?  Is anyone else having this problem, same phone or other?  I'm pretty sure Verizon is hip to this.

Too bad Verizon can not throttle 4G data per FCC rule. They CAN however and throttle 3G data. So your theory is wrong.

Yeah, about that theory being wrong...either you didn't read my post or you have no idea what "throttling" is.  Throttling is done by slowing your data stream, not by weakining you're signal.  Software is what tells the phone to switch between 3G and 4G, a fact that their tech support confirmed.  I also talked to Verizon and they claim not to throttle 3G or 4G.  So you're theory is wrong.

Throttling has no relevance whatsoever to the OP's issue. Neither do FCC rules.

Samsung in all likelihood disabled the 3G/4G toggle at Verizon's request. Samsung is notorious for disabling specific features at the behest of the carriers. A Samsung rep unabashedly told me so.

The OP is suggesting that Verizon is doing something to the 4G signal to prevent him from using as much data. That is forbidden by the FCC. Verizon would be in serious trouble if they were indeed doing that.

psyphi407,

Buckle up! Because we want to get you back in the data fast lane. What's your zip code? How long has this been an issue? And does this happen indoors only?

My zip is 98671 and this identical issue has been going on at least 2 weeks very bad and probably months on and off. It's mostly on the south side of our prop where I get 1 4g bar if I reset or move to the north side of the house it switches back to 3g and it works awesome like it used it. I'm frustrated enough to start switching over to voip or something else.

Thanks for sharing those details. I can understand your concern, djjdubb. I checked the zip code and I do see the area being variably covered. Are calls also affected?
Have you already powered off/on, removed/reinserted the SIM and tried again?
How is the service in other places?
