What is normal time to activate a pre-purchased pre-paid phone

I went through  Verizon website 6 days ago, entered appropriate info including MEID, SIM, credit card info, the pre-paid plan I wanted,  etc and all was well.  I got a confirmation e-mail , with an order number  which said I could check back, but when I do, it just says its being procecess, and that I should wait for another e-mail, with no indication of how long this is going to take.  Why is this taking so long?  No delivery of phone is necessary. Had I known it was going to be this long, I would have taken the time to drive to a store. I though doing it online would be quicker, especially since I already had the phone. Very disappointed in lack of information.
