$200 worth of Revere down the drain!

A few weeks ago I bought two prepaid LG Revere phones from a store in Nevada. I was told I could call anywhere that Verizon service was available, including roaming areas shown on the coverage map. I have friends with Verizon phones and they work at my home, so I figured no problem. I live in Yosemite National Park, CA and realize coverage is spotty, but it does work here because Golden State Cellular has towers that are regularly accessed by Verizon customers. When I got home a few weeks later, I found I could receive calls, but could not make calls. I was able to connect two times out of dozens of tries. Thinking I was doing something wrong, I called customer service. They walked me through reprogramming and everything they could think of only to determine that I do not have full roaming ability with a prepaid phone until six months into the contract! I am getting five bars of service in 1X roaming, and cannot make a phone call from my $200 worth of %#@&* phones! I asked if there was anything that I could do to remedy this and they told me to take it up with the manager of the store where they were purchased. I called the store and he said I'm locked into a contract for six months, after which roaming will then magically become available! Nothing he can do, he said, and told me to call customer service. I did, and they suggested I get ANOTHER PHONE and sign up for monthly post paid service!!! By this time I'm pretty mad, to say the least, and am about ready to throw my junk phones away. I post this as a warning as I have seen people here with the same issue and no resolution to the problem. Beware of prepaid Verizon, if it doesn't work, they will not make things right. They apparently cannot throw the magic switch that allows roaming until your six months are up! Sorry, can't do it, no exceptions, even when their representative employee lies straight to your face. Unbelievable thiat this is a BBB accredited business.

Try *228 option two to update roaming capabilities it's a wise Idea to do this when in a new area or every couple of months at home as they are constantly updating the network

I would have to drive pretty far to get to an area where this is possible. The next time I'm in a city where digital service is available, I'll try it. Amazing they can't resolve this with a phone call, now I can't even call my own phone, and I could just this morning! My phone doesn't even show my phone number anymore in the "my number" menu! They made it worse with each attempt at customer service! Thanks for the advice though.
