Why can't I receive text messages from e-mail?

I had signed up to receive texts concerning traffic issues.  According to the 511nj.org website, I should be entering mycellnumber@vtext.com. I entered that but am not receiving any updates.  If I enter an email address, I receive the updates.  I also tried sending an email to mycelllnumber@vtext.com and it does not arrive.  What do I need to do?

Are you entering your full 10 digit number, no dashes or spaces, no leading 1?

Try 10-digitnumber@vzwpix.com

That will send it as MMS, allowing for longer messages, and they may be sending them out as MMS, rather than SMS.
