Are you saying you got this phone from Verizon? If you can give a little more info.
Were you using this phone as a trade in?
This is my daughter's phone - she purchased it through Amazon maybe 5 years
ago. I purchased the Google Pixel yesterday and will receive it on
Thursday. I'd like to get some $$4 back on her old Samsung S5. When I
logged into Verizon Wireless website it asked to enter the device ID - ID #
[removed] - it popped up as "device is lost or stolen".

Interesting. Assuming you have verified you typed in the Device ID correctly, it could be that 5 years ago it was reported lost/stolen and the finder/perpetrator sold it on Amazon. Maybe a Forum Moderator will jump in here for some private help for you.
Thanks.... I'm going over to one of the verizon stores, I will bring it
with me and see what they can do.

Might be helpful if your daughter has the Amazon purchase email/receipt or credit card proof of purchase. I'm not saying the Verizon store employees wouldn't believe where the phone came from, but who knows.
Thanks ..... just may have to do that. It was, as I remember, a
Verizon//amazon special for $1 -- the phone was new.
