If I make a one time payment before starting auto pay, will it only pay my remaining balance?

Can anyone tell me if  I am set up on Auto Pay to pull out my bill every month and I make a One Time Payment before the auto pay comes out if the bill will update and only pull out the remaining balance? Is there a specific amount of time that I need to give the system to update everything?

I am on a share everything plan and the Verizon Account holder (so I have access to online payments) and instead of writing a check every month to the checking account holder, I was just hoping to make a payment for my portion of the bill.

centraldea, I'm glad you asked! If you make a partial payment, the automatic payment will still pull out the full amount. The best thing to do is to log on to My Verizon http://bit.ly/xB4iTc and suspend your Automatic Payment for one month. This will prevent the auto-pay from going through. Then, you can make a partial payment, and then pay the rest off when you are ready, and you won't get over charged.
