Can I temporarily activate a new device while keeping my unlimited data?

Hi

I recently broke my Samsung Galaxy S3 which has unlimited data and my mother's line is due for an upgrade in a month or so. Instead of replacing my S3 through my insurance I was hoping to use her upgrade and switch it to my line so I can keep my unlimited data/get a newer phone.  However I do need a phone in the meantime so I was wondering if I could do the following

1. Transfer my 4G Device Phone Number to another  device using *228 (Currently have a 3G Device and a Blackberry I can transfer to)
2. When eligible, use my mother's upgrade to get a new phone and transfer my number to it while keeping my unlimited data plan

Does transferring my 4G device phone number to a 3G phone mean I lose unlimited data? Any feedback would be appreciated, thanks

You should be able to do what you propose.  Switching to a 3G device will not affect your plan, or your unlimited data.  If you upgrade your mother's line, HER contract will be extended, not yours.  And you can use that phone on your line, keeping your unlimited data.

Just be sure to do the transaction(s) at a corporate store, or on line, yourself to ensure that you keep the unlimited data plan on your line.

We're excited to hear that your Mom is going to allow you to use her upgrade eligibility! You can transfer her eligibility to your line online at My Verizon. Please be advised that her contractual agreement will be extended for an additional two years for that promotionally purchased phone. However, you will be able to activate that device on your line and keep your Unlimited Data plan.
