This update supposedly rolled out mid July, but I have yet to receive it, and when i check for an update, nothing is available, and it says my phone is up to date. Any advice on how to get it without using the software update tool?
It's important that you are able to enjoy the benefits of the latest update, hoptitude. It's odd that your phone is indicating it is up to date, without having received the update. Can you confirm the current software version by going to Settings>About Phone>Software Info, what displays for Android Version, Baseband version and Build number? Aside from using the software update tool, you can back up your content and perform a factory reset. After a factory reset, this should push the latest update to be downloaded.

You could also go into a Verizon store and they could update it for you or show you how to update it.
