How do I increase the wifi range of my new 6620L? It does not provide the nearly the range of the mifi2200 I was using previously. I recently upgraded from the mifi2200 to the 6620L to get the 4G speed and the increased number of connections. The 4G connection to the tower seems adequate. (-80-90dbM and snr 7-10) But I was not expecting to see such a decrease wifi range. The mifi2200 would stay connected to laptops anywhere in the house and much of my yard. The 6620L can barely keep connected to devices in the same room. What gives? I have set it to use a fixed channel( currently 11 but also tried 1 and 6) rather than Auto but do not see any improvement. I am returning the device unless there is a fix for this. Does Verizon have a 4G device with better wifi range?

The only other current Jetpack I would recommend is the Netgear AC791L. I don’t recall anyone complaining about its Wi-Fi in the forum. You can Search the forum for AC791L and read all of the comments.

A Jetpack is the wrong device for your situation. A Jetpack is designed for mobile use, it is not designed for a fixed, in the home internet solution. A more appropriate device is the Verizon LTE Internet and Home Phone (router). However, this router is new (it may be just a name change in a new package) and not much is known about it. If you try this option please post your comments about it, because inquiring minds want to know.

With that said, I’m old school, I’ve been doing digital data communications for a while. I’ve never been impressed with combination modem/router (gateway device) going back to Westell DSL Gateways and VZW’s current offerings are even less impressive. VZW’s primary concern is cellular communications and for that they do a good job. But beyond that I can do a better job. You can take your 6620L and USB Tether it to the Pepwave Surf OTG (see supported devices). If you turn off the Wi-Fi radio in the Jetpack, you can use the OTG for Wi-Fi and likely find it does a more acceptable job.
