Bought new MiFI that cannot connect

Bought brand new at Verizon store to replace the old, sent home with the statment it is ready to go.

Did not have access to data plan

called support spent over an hour with no luck finally told I had to remove family manage plan and it will take 24 hours to come off the plan.

What the heck is Verizon selling products that do not work with their exisitng plans...

May just take it back and look else where I hate the headaches.
