How do I get the old Emojis back?

I'm on an HTC One M8, using the Verizon Messages+ app. I liked the emojis how they used to be, and the way they still show up on my wife's iPhone. The new way, they look strange, and are much larger than before. I thought I read something about some emoji settings somewhere in the customization area, but there is no setting like that on mine. Please help me! The new emojis look like weird watercolor paintings...Thanks in advance!

Ensure you have the latest version of the app (6.2.2), then tap the three dots in the upper right-hand corner, tap Customize, tap Emoji Settings, then tap Classic.
