LTE is a battery hog.  Some people don't have any issues with battery life while only on 4G but most are seeing a significant impact as it seems to be relatively unstable over an extended period.  There isn't a toggle but you there is a way that you can manually tell it not to use LTE and use 3G instead.  There's an app in the market called Phone Info by SC@Taiwan.  Cool thing about Froyo is that you can link your account at that link, hit install and it'll automatically start installing the app on your phone.

As for the app itself, you want to open it, go to Phone Information, scroll down til you see a little drop down that says CDMA+LTE/EvDO auto.  Change that to CDMA Auto (prl) and keep hiting the back button to get back to your home screen.  This should cause it to lock to 3G and hopefully help with the battery life issues.  Whenever you need LTE, you can just go back into the app and switch it back.  If that doesn't work, there isn't much else that can be done.

And no worries about all the questions.  I'd be the same way if the phone was dying that fast.  They always say don't turn it on before it's initially charged but I've never noticed any negative effects from not doing so. Mine had about 50% when I left the store and I put it on the charger at 30% or so and let it charge while still using it.   One thing you can try is let it charge until you get the green light, turn the phone off and you should notice the light is back to red again.   Let it charge again to the green light and power the phone on.  The battery gauges on these phones have a habit of lying to you.

Is that what you are doing to get good battery life? Because in that pic you sent me it said unplugged 8 hours and so many minutes ago and you still had like 80% or more left of your battery.

I'm still waiting to get LTE in my area, should be later this year.  I had initially changed it but I haven't noticed any difference between having the option on or off since it has no LTE to use.  I mainly use wifi but the typical battery over 3G was only slightly worse.

ugh...i dont have wifi as an option really. IF you have it on it isnt draining the battery searching for the LTE? or does it not do that...i dont really know what the difference between 4g and 4g LTE is. Could I have messed up my battery?

4G is a term related to the new network technologies (LTE, Wimax, HSPA+(barf)) capable of speeds much faster than previous 3G technologies.  4G LTE is just what verizon likes to call it.  I would assume that it would try to find an LTE network for handoff purposes but haven't really noticed an impact.  Maybe the check requires a lot more battery life than it would to handoff to LTE and back.  That's a little above my paygrade.

I'd try to change that option and see if you have improvement tomorrow.  If that doesn't work, go to a Verizon store near you and see if you can get another battery or call *611.  If the new battery nor changing the setting works, then I'm not sure what else the issue would be.

How about the brightness level? Do you have it all the way up? If so, try a lower level of brightness.

I can usually leave my phone at 15% or less and see my screen. It also reduces the battery drain.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

With such low usage time, I'm thinking it's something other than screen brightness.

After a few days now I've noticed I get about 7 hours.. which I guess isn't too bad.

I'm sort of a new droid user so i don't close all my apps all the time, and i use a lot of apps.. Watch tv on lunch break etc

The biggest thing I did was turn my display down to 15-25% during the day

I was so excited I did what you said as far as the charging process with charging it until you see the green led then turning it off and waiting for it to turn green again etc... It lasted for 24 hours! I was able to get it to last that long twice. Now no dice. The only difference is the two times I charged it and it lasted that long I was right next to it at work when the led changed for me to turn it on or off. Then when the whole process was done I pulled it off the charger and used it right away. If i do this during the night i am able to switch it on or off when i wake up during the night but  once its done charging I am typically still asleep. I dont understand why now its not lasting again. This seems like a whole lot of work for a freaking phone.

I posted twice in the other "battery life" thread. Was getting about 24hrs per charge. added some apps, battery life went down to about 2 hrs. Wipe handset, looks like I'm back to 24hrs.
