Sharon, I'm sorry you're upset, here's a few things to think about:
1. If your phone is non-functional, it needs to be fixed. My Thunderbolt works perfectly and when it didn't (WiFi stopped working) I got it replaced. It was still under warranty at that time. If your phone isn't in warranty and is non-functional there are plenty of places that can repair it and you need to do that because:
2. A software update won't fix anything, your phone is like your PC, if it's got a problem an upgrade won't fix it and might make it worse. Also:
3. You may be VERY disappointed with ICS, several folks in other forums with phones that have been upgraded to ICS have complained it's almost the same as before the upgrade and it is. That's because the ICS upgrade uses Sense 3.6 and it's pretty much like Sense 3.0 which you have with Gingerbread. Sense 4.x is the BIG change and it probably won't come with the ICS update.
For me, the T'bolt is a great phone, like everyone else I'm very eager to see the ICS upgrade because it's so overdue but meanwhile, my phone works to perfection and does everything I could want it to do (except wash the dishes and the dog does most of that for me! <G>)
xs11e -- I don't even have the Sense 3.0 Gingerbread on my Tbolt. I have android version 2.3.4, and software number 2.11.605.19 710RD, HTC Sense vers. is 2.1. I do have the last update rolled out in May 2012. It never helped with any of the shutdown problems it was having prior to that update. I had BOUGHT a BRAND NEW Tbolt for a week before the problems began. They switched sim cards, factory reset, tried all the techs knew to do with no luck. They gave me another "new Tbold" which I later found out was a refurb. So I no longer had a NEW phone for all I paid for it and still had/have all the same problems, but they are progressivly worse now. I still have until March 2013 to deal with this one and I have a feeling the problems will be so much worse it will be unusable by then. I LOVED THIS PHONE, despite the little gliches it was giving me - I could handle it. But its so much worse now, I will end up not having a phone to use before March get here. You've read all the stories - VZ doesn't want to deal wtih this at all - they are and have always been aware of the real problems. Whatever. I've shopped at several other carriers tonight and have found one that I think will do, its just getting out of the termination fees thats going to be next to impossible! I am SO fed up with VZ and so very disappointed how they've changed just in the past few years. Not the great company I stayed with all these
years. But THANKS for your suggestions and patience, I will keep them in mind!
It's okay, I'm under contract until March, in which I CANNOT wait to switch carriers! Verizon has some of the worst customer service I've ever had to deal with. You CANNOT get a straight answer from them, they never provide you any USEFUL data and I've seen it time and time again regarding promised updates. They translate into broken dreams! If this lies on HTC's end (or any phone carrier for that matter), it should also be your responsibility to keep your customers in the know. Put it in your specifications that you REQUIRE a manufacturer to provide you with this data as it's an essential part to customer service! All you have to do is simply relay this to us, and hound them/fine them if they're delinquent in reporting! We were promised ICS how long ago? WHERE IS IT? M T-Bolt is so unstable since the last release "update" that I am counting down the days I can switch! You've lost me as a customer, but this could serve a lesson for other disgruntled customers also considering splitting!
Verizon's most critical mistake was removing unlimited data from their plans. I'm not going to buy a $700 phone so that I can keep my existing plan. That's ridiculous! Sure, your 4G is fast, but it's not worth the loss of unlimited data and extra money I'd have to fork out! Sprint = unlimited data, slower, but still far superior 4G speeds compared to 3G, cheaper prices, pretty good service, excellent customer service.
VZW = Fail. Get T-Bolt users their updates already! I want to throw my phone in a lake! I'll also never buy an HTC device ever again! Please feel free to let them know this as well!

If you are calling Verizon about HTC product running Google software, i can see why you got a headache.
Plenty of carriers have older cell phones (thunderbolt is 2 years old, first generation LTE device) that don't have software updates. What do you think GB will even do for your phone? These software verisons had very little to functionality..
You were promised ICS, no.. HTC announced they were working on on it for the thunderbolt, but no date was ever set.
If your t-bolt is unstable it isn't software, millions of people had the thunderbolt with no problems. Try doing a factory reset, wiping out some data or delting some apps and re testing.you sound like you dont know shit about phones, which is clear by the fact you are so upset over an update that at the core won't fix your issues
Verizon makes more money by removing unlimited data, and it hasn't cost them any customers.. please tell me how it was their greatest mistake.. The industry followed, apparently they are making mistakes too?
While in theory I agree with commonsense101, I have to differ in one respect. I understand that customer service and manufacturer support are no longer priorities for companies, one would think that if you buy a product in good faith from a company that touts itself as consumer friendly then the expectation of ensuring that your device is regularly updated to improve customer experience. If the companies have no desire to update phones, then as you say, then customer beware. I believe it is just poor business and therefore, will have to be more careful when asking questions about support in the future. I would say, that as this is my first "smart" phone, overall I am satisfied with performance. I am upset because what happens when apps no longer run on the older system( check Time Warner app) and my contract is still in effect. When the time comes, I am sure that Verizon and HTC will ask why I am no longer interested in their product and I will be happy to point to their forums and their vague responses.
So a company not updating the product that they sell is no good for the customer. And as we know that other companies do regularly try to satisfy their customers by ensuring that the latest improvements are offered, then I should not expect that this or any company would attempt to do so. I remember a time when that was the norm and it seems that many are now content with allowing companies not to provide an "improved(and satisfied) customer experience"
I see you failed to understand the question so I'll repeat it:
Where did you get the idea that updates will "improve the customer experience"?
Please try to answer the question rather than respond with another nonsequitur.
The question is why would it not improve the phone and therefore improve the experience. And should you think it would not, why would I not wish to find out on my own. My real question I guess is that should we be satisfied with the fact that they do not make every effort to inform and to update at every opportunity and should we as customers be happy with that.
