AZSALUKI - YOu make some very good points ie Iphone, but Verizon wanted to have the phone but from my understanding AT&T had sole rights until the agreement expired..

However, just because Verizon has greatly payed market research doesn't mean they are great at making the best decision.   IE  XBOX One and the fiasco of where that was and is today.   I think you give way too much credit to Verizon or big business in making great decisions.   IE Apple products have been unimpressive lately.

Anyhow, here is why I think that Verizon screwed up.  BTW:  Butterfly is not out so it's not part of my argument and not part of the equation.

  1. They have seemed to strong armed HTC into making a special Verizon phone for them.  Hence the Thunderbolt, Inc, Inc2,
  2. Thunderbolt was released to late in the season to be able to carry a new phone variant from HTC in the spring w/with the SG4.   Poor planning.
  3. HTC blogged that it wasn't coming to Verizon after it was released to others.   Poor Planning or No plan?
  4. Rumors saying that it is coming, but then it wasn't, but it now is.
  5. Verizon's late call as to when it was arriaving was very descriptive.  "Later, this summer"  is different than "Late summer".
  6. Everyone thought that May 22nd was big announcement that was a complete waste of time.  Even the bloggers at the event were waiting for them to announce the One.  Verizon never did.   Lamest announcement at a wireless convention.

All of these items together show me that they just had no idea of how to approach the HTC One and having just released the Thunderbolt so close together.  Plus the One Mini and One Nexus are approaching and so I just don't think they planned at the HTC One.   Being third best bought phone is where you need to be not where Verizon is today.  But hey what do I know.

1) They like to have their own versions. it seperates them from other carriers. they have had a TON of exclusive moto devices. is that strong arming? or is that a favorable relationship that they have with these manufacturers?

2) i'm not sure what that even means? they brought the FIRST LTE smartphone (tbolt) to the market. there's no way to negatively spin that.

3) HTC said there were no plans at the time to bring it to verizon so yeah......no plans.

4) rumors would be the key word there.

5) i think today is the first day of summer, so i figure that if they said "later, this summer" then they have a few months to launch it.

6) again....rumors/speculation. just because we wanted the announcement to be the One doesn't mean verizon ever planned on it.

I think you're confusing the DNA with the tbolt. the tbolt launched over 2 years ago. as far as the iphone goes, apple shopped it around and at&t was the highest bidder. verizon could have had it, and they passed.

i suppose it's possible that they just don't know what they are doing, but i doubt it. if they wanted the One when it originally launched, they could have had it. they passed, at least for the time. it could have as simple as not wanting to deal with the shortages at launch or the potential freeze on sales (there was litigation going on when the One launched and everyone pushed back the launch because of supply. maybe verizon just didn't want the headache that every other carrier had to deal with).

You guys really think V will have the One in November or December. Exxagerating, no? I've never seen ANY carrier get a phone 7 months after the competition. And who said the One is coming out on July 15th? One article speculated it'll be here BEFORE than because of proof, that doesn't mean its coming out on the 15th.

Now if evleaks or llabtoofer are to be trusted then the phone MIGHT be out before July because that's what they said. And I don't know if anyone's keeping track but llabtoofer has been on point, the whole way through.

Many of you are putting the blame to Verizon, but think of the situation. The One was delayed, had supply issues, and hardware quality issues. Imagine if the largest carrier in the country had gotten the phone at the same time as the others.. it would've been a disaster. Just recently HTC claimed to have resolved the supply issues.

I do really think that V will announce its release date a day or two before the actual release, as it has done with most other high profile delayed releases.

*bows down* bravo bravo

I was about to say what @Danishs said, HTC had some antenna hardware issues or some lawsuit in the beginning.

and yeah llabtoofer has been on point with HTC one and other HTC things. He confirmed the M4 is the HTC one mini and that T-mobile will indeed have it. He also has came out and said that he thinks sprint will be getting the Butterfly S.

Too much faith has been put on llabtoofer and allthingsd. They have said nothing but speculation and have been none too right either.

How could Verizon have foreseen product shortages when the other carriers could not? I'm gonna say, not possible. They said "No", before the product was even shown.

Verizon thinks they're doing their customers a favor by "demanding" "one off" products, which end up being inferior to what the other carriers get.

Take the original One and One X. Every bit as good as the GS3. Verizon "has" HTC make the T-bolt and an out-dated Incredible 4G. Both red-headed step-children. Then we get the DNA out of the blue, and while a great phone, too late to the party.

If Verizon would have let HTC sell the One and One X on their network, they might not be in the trouble they were/still are (?) in.

Now everybody has the One, which is by several accounts, the best droid, and we aren't getting it any time soon and when we do, it will be dated.

Verizon's version HAS TO BE different enough from the One everybody else is selling, for it to be successful and to mean something for both V and HTC.

All the talk about V won't release a phone within 6 months of the last one is bogus now too. We are going on month 8.

Looks like V won't be getting the M4, and with the T-6 coming the end of the year, which is now less than 6 months way..We are most likely going to get the shaft again.

Verizon, is anybody leaving their carrier for the Thunderbolt or Incredible 4G or DNA? NO. I highly doubt it.

Verizon's handset methods are befuddling at the least.

I think one of the reasons why Verizon is dissing these new phones is because of the possibility that they aren't getting the deals they once could. Manufacturers are getting tired of having to dumb down verizon's phones, and put CDMA radios in them. Notice all the new phones come out on GSM/HSPA networks first because that's where the whole world market is. Specialization to Sprint/Verizon's CDMA is expensive and they just don't want to do it anymore. Can't say I blame them.

There were no hardware quality issues, only supply issues. The only hardware related issue thus far with the One is the Nokia HDR microphone lawsuit, not a performance issue with the phone itself. Judge also ruled that HTC could exhaust current supplies of this microphone before it had to put a replacement in it. Not releasing the HTC One is Verizon's fault IMO. The fact that they refused to get on board to sell one of the 2 or 3 best phones of 2013, is a disservice to it's customers, even if it would have been 4-6 weeks later (at which supply issues were no longer a concern). A delay of a month or so would not have stopped HTC from putting it out there to another 100 million wireless customers as a choice. No Verizon does not care what a few people on message board think, but given the sales of the One, they may have lost more than a few customers.

yes but sprint and other cdma carriers have the One, so they obviously planned on supplying them with cdma. but you make a good point.

the judge made that decision after it launched. in the mean time, carriers could only wonder what would happen. the last thing you'd want is a judgement that froze sales, for which orders had already been placed, when you didn't even have the inventory yet. in the end, it wasn't too big of a deal, but there was a possibility of a nightmare scenario there. you launch it, millions order it, supply shortgage, then a legal order to not ship it. it "could" have been a disaster. also....the supply shortage cleared up fairly quickly only because the largest carrier in the nation wasn't selling it. had verizon offered it when everyone else did, i'm guessing there may still be people waiting. i haven't seen the numbers, but you could add a TON to it if verizon did sell it, causing longer delays.

@dimap52   I think the reason we see GSM/HSPA network releases first has more to do with Verizon wanting an exclusive device and the android platform already aware they will not get a timely response from Verizon when it comes to releases and updates. As far as CDMA radios, If the manufactures can gain enough revenue they will modify their handset to please market need. Example for the Chinese market the HTC One is available with 2 SIM cards and was modified with a removable back to accommodate. I guarantee sales from the US Verizon customer base would generate more revenue for HTC and if Verizon had been on board from the beginning AT&T and Verizon would have been HTC's top priority regardless of antenna.

@everyone   I believe Verizon did not anticipate the raving public and media reaction the HTC ONE has received and did not put a priority on it's timely release. Especially since they had, in their eyes, a comparable HTC DNA. The GS3 was such a hit for them that focusing on the GS4 launch seemed the more logical choice and I don't fault them for that. I believe HTC's delayed release of the ONE and questions of supply had Verizon in a hold pattern, once they decided to get on board and carry the ONE. The last thing they want is irate customers waiting on a Verizon promise to release product and limited supply. I agree this waiting for months on a release is not much better, To me this is a catch-22 in the eyes of Verizon with this scenario being a very slight lesser of two evils.

I am hopeful that the HTC ONE will be released late June or early July but that's just my glass half full approach as AT&T is not an option for me. I've been contracted to a building for the past 14 years where AT&T has no service. This is where I spend 8 hours of my day.
