Car Dock Issue After Gingerbread Update

I have had trouble with my car dock not working properly since the last OTA update.  If the car doc is plugged in and I put my Thunderbolt in it the Car Panel app does not launch.  If you unplug the Car Dock from the car charging cable and put the phone in the dock the app launches fine.  Since I keep my Car Dock plugged in, if I forget to unplug it I have to take the phone out of the dock, unplug the dock and place the phone back into the dock to get car panel to run.  After it is running you can then plug the dock in without any further issues.  This is really inconvenient.  Is anyone else having this issue?  Is there anything I can to to fix this?

I have the same problem. On top of that, it won't go onto landscape from the home screen. Boo! Should've left it alone. Everything worked great but not now!

I don't know if HTC made a car dock, but they did make a desktop dock and the phone will go into landscape mode if you have the HTC Desktop Dock.  If you have another dock you can download an app through the Droid Market called "Desktop VisualizeR" and will will allow you to create a shortcut on one of your home screens for the app "Dock Mode".  This shorcut will allow you to shift the phone in landscape mode even if you do not have it plugged in to a dock.

Having the same problem but did not know about the trick with unpluging the adapter. Ill have to try that. The Desk Top Dock Mode works but once you run it it will not go away for some reason. It stays in the status bar and the only way I have found to shut it down is to restart the phone. I dont' think this is a GB bug thou because Aps in question are spcific to HTC and the Thunderbolt so Im guessing it's a sense bug perhaps??

There should be an X in the bottom left hand corner of the screen that will exit the dock mode.

I Use an AP from the Market (Alarm Clock Plus) as the default so when I go to the Dock AP this dose not show up.

So i tried the Unpug Fix sugested and found it works. I also discovered an added trick to this. Because no power goes to the Car Dock untill you turn your key and start your car the Phoen will go into Car Dock (Car Panel) mode if you plug it into the dock befor starting the car. just make shore you don't turn the key at all as you can still gain power to the car if you turn it to just beofr ignition(if you have ever been to a Drive In Movie this is what ost people to to listen threw there radio) My sugestion is when you get in the car put your phone in the car dock first then put your keys in and start the car. it's much easyer then unpluging the Dock and only an extra step to your daily rootine. of course this coudl all be solved if they just fix the darn thing with an update:smileyhappy:

Oh goodness! It's strange that the car dock hasn't worked for you guys since the software update to Gingerbread.

I would like to look into this further.

What model of car dock is being used? Is it from VZW store?  Can you try manually searching for car panel from search key? What happens?

Please let me know in order for us to determine what's happening. We surely need a resolution for this.

Thanks!

The VZW store model car dock also has not worked for me since day 1 after the gingerbread update.  Prior to that it was quite reliable.

I believe the issue is that the events fired on the phone for 'charging' and 'car dock' are colliding.  Give the phone enough time to process the 'charging' event by placing the phone on the dock but not securing it all the way in... just enough to see the light illuminate at the top of the phone.  If you then wait 3-5 secondds before snapping the phone the rest of the way down into the dock, the dock app launches successfully.

Only when the phone is docked immediately after the phone is inserted does it fail to process the dock event.  I think that is why docking without power seems to work for other uses as well.  To me it seems like if the events fire too close to each other, they get lost somehow.... just my observation.
