speaker doesn't work

The external speaker on my droid razor maxx isn't working.  I can push on the speaker and it works sometimes.  is this a warranty issue?

MY Razr Maxx started having the same problem.  I believe that there was a connector issue in the phone.  If I pushed on different areas the speaker sometimes came back on.  I could also hear something that sounded loose if I shook the phone.  The phone was less than one years old so it was replaced with a refurbed one by Verizon under manufacturers warranty.  .

Mcscootter, this would certainly be a warranty issue. Let's try a few things first. Are you hearing any audio at all thru your speaker? Is there a crackling sound? Verify there's no debris covering the speaker or inside it. If you have a can of compressed air, try spraying that around the speaker. If still no change and the phone hasn't been damaged or exposed to any liquid, then we can replace through warranty. Let me know if you still need assistance with this issue.

This is a problem I have been having with my Droid Maxx as well.  I took it to a Wireless Toys shop for a repair since it's out of warranty, but they said it couldn't be fixed.  Said the problem was not the connection to the speaker, but the speaker itself.  Not sure if I can trust them...but I don't know what else to do.  A repair looks like it will cost more than replacing the phone would...but I've got this phone perfect now with all the apps I want, etc...I would hate to give all that up!  Help!

Update: Frustration

Stopped by my friendly neighborhood Verizon store yesterday to see what could be done about this. Since my phone is out of warranty (more than a year old), Verizon assumes absolutely no responsibility for getting this fixed.  I do have insurance, but there is a $100 deductible, plus I would lose all my applications, calendars, and company email account.  So I thought the friendly folks at Verizon would allow me to upgrade my phone early (by 6 months).  Nope.  Can't do it. They'd be happy to sell me a replacement at full cost ($600), but that's as far as they would go. Their advice to me? Contact Motorola!

This is really too bad.  I love my Razr Maxx and would like to keep it but maybe it's time to look at other service providers (I've been with Verizon for almost 15 years).  Verizon 4G LTE is the best service I've found, and it galls me to have to consider moving. I don't expect any sort of reply from Verizon to this post, but maybe it will serve as a warning: make sure you understand the warranty coverage and get the best insurance you can for your phone.  I probably will not switch providers since the 4G service is so much better than other providers'...but I won't be happy about it.

Also having the same speaker issue.  So frustrating that Verizon and Motorola are aware of this and pretend they don't know and/or say there is nothing they can do.

Did you really expect them to let you upgrade 6 months early? As it is, they let you do it 4 months early, at 20 months of the 24 month contract you sign. You were asking them to let you get a new subsidized phone only 14 months into the contract.

Are you on a family plan at all? Are there other lines that are eligible for an upgrade? You could always use one of them if you do, otherwise The insurance plan is the best way to go.

Your comment about losing applications, calendars, and company email are all wrong, as soon as you activated the replacement phone, you can push all your apps to the phone that you had. You calendars (As long as they are Google Calendars) will be right there as soon as you setup the account. You could have a replacement phone looking just like your existing phone in a couple of hours.

Droid Usrr...Yeah, I really did expect to be treated like the long-term Verizon customer that I am.  I really did expect the company to stand behind a customer when there is an obvious flaw in the hardware, even when that flaw presents itself after the one-year warranty has expired. Since I use company-specific applications on my phone, I would, indeed, lose all my calendar and email history.  I know this because it happens every time I upgrade...which I have done pretty religiously for almost 15 years,

Update: I took my phone to a reputable repair shop and they showed me what was wrong and why it can't be fixed.  Underneath the speaker, on the motherboard for the phone, there is a very fine connection to the speaker.  That has broken on my phone and cannot be fixed without very specialized tools. So, my phone, for which I paid almost $300 when it came out, can only be replaced if I want this to be fixed. By the time I am eligible for a new phone I will have paid more for this phone that I would have for a laptop or tablet. For now, I have purchased a small speaker than plugs into my headphone jack.  This works okay while at home or at the office.  When away from my desk I turn the phone to vibrate, so at least I know when a call is coming in or I have new email or messages to answer.

Unfortunately it is not a fault of Verizon Wireless that your speaker went kaput. The manufacturer gives a one year warranty for its repair or replacement and as you noted there is supplement phone insurance that could replace it .

The 1 year warranty would have gotten you a refurbish phone, with a speaker that works. But who knows what other issues the replacement might have. its a big gamble

The setting up your phone over and over should be easy by now. I do it everytime I buy a new one. I think I can do it blind folded.

You could always get a cheaper phone off the web or even new for almost nothing at big name stores and activate it and set it up but that of course is up to you.

Good Luck
