install deferred

I performed the update to version 21.44.8.en.US but my phone still says system update available and the status says "install deferred". When I click on the system update available the phone says that my device's software is up to date. Is anyone else having this issue? Is there a resolution?

Thanks for confirming, JimJ-NJ!

Yes, your device software is up to date.  To clear this message, I would like to suggest booting the device up in Safe Mode: http://vz.to/1CNwC4c.  Then perform a Factory Data Reset: http://vz.to/1OZvBvg.  Once your device is set back up, let me know if the message returns.  Thanks!

We certainly want to ensure you have the best device experience, JimJ-NJ! To confirm the current version that should be running on the device is the one you have mentioned 21.44.12. Are you currently on this version or getting the error from 21.44.8? If already on 12 we do not have an update further.

Thank you,

I am on version 21.44.12.

My only concern is the conflict between the System updates screen message "System update available / select to continue with update" and, when I do select it to continue, the message "Your device's software is up to date." I assume this is related to the Status of "Install deferred" on the System updates screen.

That's not a great solution, to do a factory reset. It is a pretty drastic

solution. I don't want to lose all my data. It is a pain to set it up all

over again. But since you recommend this procedure, you must know exactly

what is causing the problem, as opposed to just pointing me to a catch-all

approach. Given that, can you tell me if there is any downside to me

keeping it the way it is? Would it interfere with a future software update

(that I hope is coming soon)?

@JimJ-NJ

I definitely understand your concerns.  The recommended step was performed by another user who experienced the same and was able to resolve the error message by resetting the device.  However, it doesn't appear that not resetting the device will prevent it from receiving any future software updates.  Just let me know if you decide to reset the device and the results of your testing.

In the meantime, I don't want you to be concerned with losing any of your device data or media.  I strongly recommend backing up your data prior to resetting the device.  The instructions for backing up your device data are included in the link for resetting the device here: http://vz.to/1OZvBvg.
