Hey guys, i just got my brand new droid razr 3 hours ago, having issues activating. verizon told me to put in the simcard, and power on. i did that, retried it 6 times. no luck. then i saw that there are 2 very small scratches on the gold contacts of the simcard. is that a problem? can i take the phone into a store, and have them activate it for me?

Hi, I did exactly that, took my new smart phone to the local verizon wireless store and asked them to activate it for me. They were more than happy to do so. I am sure you can let the verizon store activate yours as well. ( I did have concern that they might not activate it for me since I had purchased the phone directly from Verizon wireless on line and received it through the delivery fedex or UPS whichever, and the local store is not a verizon store but a "wireless zone" that sells only verizon and still they activated it. Its a good move esp if you are having any difficulty activating it, this way the verizon people themselves can determine that the phone arrived this way and you should get a new one if the current one is truly defective, and not a "certified like new" You paid for a new phone you should get a new phone, and one that works!

I had trouble activating mine, drove to the local Verizon store who told me they couldn't do anything with it since I purchased it online.  Not sure if that's true or not, but I drove back home and called Verizon's support number and a very nice CSR had me up and running in no time.  I could have saved myself 45 minutes of driving if I'd done that from the get go.

Yes you can or you can call VZW from another phone at 1-800-922-0204.
If you're at all concerned about the SIMM card, tell the store to give you a new one - but do that before you activate or you'll have to start all over again. IMHO if the scratches don't cut through the contact(s) it'sprobably not an issue.

the stores are virtually worthless if you're not buying something from that representative.

What was especially frustrating was that I would have bought the phone from the local dealer but on 11/11 they weren't going to open until 11:11 (instead of their normal 10:00 time - great "marketing") which was too late for me - especially since I wasn't even sure they were going to have it.

I went to the same store about a week or two after the Galaxy Nexus was released - just to see it - and he told me they didn't get any in yet.  But one of the employees had one I could see if I didn't mind waiting until he got back - he just left to do a bank deposit.  Really??? You are a dealer, right?

Can't see myself going back there anytime soon.

But my dealings with VZW online have all been very good, whether sales or support.

Hi, I know this is a bit off topic but related none the less. I always did wonder what happens to the cell phones that a customer purchases, uses for 14 days and then returns it. Verizon of course specifies the phone must be returned complete as purchased or in resaleable condition. You noticed scratches on the contacts, maybe they are not an issue at all, but somehow it just seems to me when I purchase a cell phone that I will use for two years I would like it to be brand new! Not used and returned by (we never know how many)others. I believe they just started charging a restocking fee but does this fee recover losses by now having to sell the phone as like new or is it really just sold again and again until someone keeps it? Maybe this is just my own obsession but I like to be the one removing the shrink wrap when I buy an expensive item like these smart phones. I once received one (a droid original droid like two or three years ago) in which it was so very obvious the plastic stickers over certain parts of the phone when new had been peeled off and replaced many times. That kind of bugs me and made me wonder if the stores dont just re sell and re sell until its not returned again!

I have an e-sim card (apparently) that can only be activated with a QR code.  This doesn’t work & Motorola doesn’t know how to fix it.  $1,600 down the drain.

That's an amazing device, and we want you to be able to enjoy it, Zbabster. Let's gather some details to see what happened. Were you unable to get the QR code, or did you have issues using the one that was provided? Here is a link with steps to activate this device: https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-228869/
