When opening certain applications, I am prompted to connect to wifi.
Let's start by handling the inevitable questions:
Yes, I have Network Notification disabled in wifi advanced settings.
Yes, I've factory reset. This started after a factory reset - actually occurs after two consecutive resets.
Current version is 24.3.7 Obake/Android 4.4.4
I noticed that there is a thread on XDA regarding this issue from November 2014 and that it, likewise, has no proper solution.

Do these apps run if you don't connect to WiFi? Are these apps like some games that download a small stub then download the rest over WiFi?
If you gave us the names of the apps, it may help.

Everything causes it. Waze, Ingress, even Hangouts. It seems to be at random times, random apps. No consistency whatsoever.

PPerhaps it's simpler than that....maybe you wifi signal drops out and the phone is trying to reconnect?

I only connect to wifi at home and this is happening everywhere but there.
Had the phone replaced due to malfunctioning camera two weeks ago and the new one does the same thing.
