My NEW Razr Maxx only has 8GB Internal storage. What gives, shouldn't have 15GB as advertized?

Hello and thank you the community members for assisting CADPLAN.

The Motorola Droid Maxx is configured with a total of 16GB of internal flash memory. Of this,10GB is available for user content (8GB for general storage, and an additional 2GB for application download and data). The remaining 6GB is used for device operation.

The device can take up to 32GB Micro SD card. You may purchase an external memory card at http://bit.ly/p5r0fh .

Thank you,

Lena A.

I just asked the same question an hour ago at the Verizon store and got the same response that Lena just gave.  Total BS in my book.  To sell/advertise a phone with 16gb internal storage but you can only use 8gb???  What a scam  I should have stuck with my iphone on ATT

First of all, I meant to say 16GB instead of 16gb, my bad.  Now back to the original issue here.  My real problem is not that some of the internal storage is set aside for system and future use. I get it.  My real complaint is simply that the advertising is soooooooo misleading. The 32GB appears in large bold text.  Obviously the make the viewer think that they are getting more storage then they are going to get.  The fine print is a weak disclaimer and shameful.  OK, so that having been said, just correctly the settings/storage page on the phone.  That is just wrong.  If that had told the real story about the internal storage I probably would not have even on this forum.  And pleaseeeee, to use this to hack larger SD cards is truly in the worst of taste.  Other that this, I like my Raza Maxx.   Thanks .

And if you go to AT&T's site, and look at the specs for the iPhone, how is it presented any different than the Maxx? I don't think I have seen any carrier with any phone come out with a statement of "Of the XXGB of internal storage, XXGB is used for the operating system, and XXGB is available for user storage"... The iPhone 16GB version has only 16GB of internal storage, and I bet you cannot use all 16GB to put music or other things in? And also, the Maxx, and most other non-Apple phones, you can add additional storage to the phone. Try doing that with an iPhone....

And Apple advertises that not all of the memory of the iPhone is accessible, or do they, like everyone else, only market it as either 8GB, 16GB, 32GB or 64GB even though some of that storage is used up by the phone and you will NEVER be able to access it.

LOL  I dont even kow where to begin to answer this....you really need to do a little more research before coming onto a public forum opening your yap and making a fool of yourself...

First off,  the 'Billy does it too' defense is just plain childish and in this case just wrong.  The 16 gb iPhone DOES NOT use 8GB for the OS.  Trust me I owned the 16 and 32 GB  iPhone.  The 32 GB lost about 2GB for the OS.  I wasnt thrilled with this either but I found it acceptable. I dont see how you can seriously stand here and defend a company that advertises a phone with 16GB of internal storage and only have 8 actually available.

And Verizon is not even training their store employees about this little deception.  The next time you are in your local mall, stop into the Verizon store and ask how much internal storage the MAXX has.   They will all say 1GB and none of them will have a clue that only 8 is actually usable.  Try it...My salesman was about to swap out my phone when I showed him the 8 GB because he thought it should have 16. He then went online and found the lame discalimer at the very bottom of the MAXX page.

And why does Verizon insist on loading over 2 pages of useless apps that can not be removed.  Do I really need the Blockbuster app on my phone?  NO.  Can I remove it to free up more space?  NO   Verizon is obvioulsy getting paid by these companies to load there app onto the phone.  I should be able to remove the crap apps I dont want.  And before you ask or start saying 'but but they do it too'...Apple does NOT do this.

Since you like to do your research before "opening your yap" it is amazing you were not aware of the memory allocation of the Razr Maxx, which according to the Verizon website is configured in the following manner:

"The Droid Razr MAXX by Motorola is configured with 16GB of internal flash memory. Of this memory, 8GB is available for general storage. An additional 2GB is available for application download and application data. The balance of the memory is reserved for the operating system, user interface, and native applications."

Of course thoroughly researching things as you do, I am sure you were aware of this and are just acting ignorant of this fact!

I wasn't saying that it was OK for Motorola/Verizon to do this by pointing out that Apple ALSO does not make the ENTIRE advertised memory available, but because when YOU make statements such as "I should have stuck with my iphone on ATT", it makes one think you were not aware of this fact.

And Apple DOES have apps on their phone which you cannot remove, but this also does not make it OK for Motorola/Verizon to do the same thing. I am also sure you are aware of this and not just "opening your yap" without doing your research.

LOL  you are funny.  Obviously by posting on this thread I am admitting that I did not do my research and I unfortunately relied on the honesty/training of my trusty Verizon sales rep.  If I had done my reasearch and realized that the 32GB phone that Verizon is selling is only 24 GB I would have thought twice.  I am hoping to keep others from making the same mistake because I can gaurantee the well trained and knowledgable staff at the local Verizon store certainly wont tell you because they wont know.

Yes Apple does use some of their memory for OS but a 32GB iPhone gives approx 30GB of storage...my 32GB RAZR MAXX gives me 24GB of storage...unacceptable to me.  And no I dont want to buy a 32GB SD card to bump me up to a whopping 40GB...lol....what a joke...

Apple does NOT put over three pages of useless apps on their phone.  Why do I need three different navigation apps loaded on to the phone?

They obviously both have their faults but I just think it is really shady the way Verizon is marketing this phone.  And dont get me started on the "21 hours of talk time"...lol....its as if they think they can just say whatever they want no matter how ludicrous...
