The ongoing saga of text issues with Verizon Wireless

I have a Droid Razr my wife has the Bionic and for the last 6 months we never know if one or the other has received a sent text to each other (or anybody else we send and receive with).  We can have a 20 text conversation and find that 1 or 2 in between just never made it, or we have to send follow-up messages "don't know if you got my last text, but....).  Now a quick search on Google will tell you that there are 20 some pages of results for this community alone that are related to text service issues in the last year, and probably 2/3 of them meet this exact scenario.  We have followed all of the "Call Center Manual" attempts to resolve the issue.  Things like clearing caches, using the native client, rebooting, resetting, and even factory wiping.  I have seen this issue across multiple phones that we have had: Fascinate, 2 Razrs, Bionic, Incredible2.

What I am not finding in these community pages, or anywhere else is a solution that has worked for anyone.  It is a random issue that happens all over the place (even at home where despite living 1 mile from the largest Verizon MTSO in Ohio we still have lousy signal.)  I am at a loss at this point and I am hoping that one person might see this that has discovered some fix to this problem.  I suspect that this is a network quality bug just judging by the vast number of people, locations, and phone types; but I figured I would give it a shot.

Unfortunately I am stuck in contract on my 4 lines until late 2013, but If I can't sent and receive texts reliably, I may just eat the ETF and move to another provider.  I have friends with other providers that are not experiencing these types of issues.

Any insight would be appreciated.

I had to read your post several times to be sure that you werent serious about your post....then I figured, why not help you out. I hate to break it to you, but there is no issue. You said that in 20 msgs, 1 or 2 may not go through. That is a 90-95% success rate, which is actually darned good. If you are going back and forth like that, its not uncommon for one or tow or even 3 messages to "fall through the cracks". 2 or 3 pages relate to this scenario - again thats 15 - 20% of pages where people are dealing with that, which means 85 to 90% of people arent having that issue. Thats not a vast number by ANY stretch of the imagination. Your phone is a phone first, every thing else secondary, including data, email, text, whatever. Verizon typically helps if there is dropped calls or other network "issues" but you, my friend, are doing well. Let it go. If its enough for you to pay to cancel over something this menial, go for it. And if you can find a carrier that is "better" than Verizon and their primary goal is to make sure 100% of your texts go through, more power to you. But its not worth the etf, my friend. Let it go.

By the way, you had all those phones over six months? According to your post youve had the issues for the last 6 months, but then you rattle off a list of phones you have had.

mrpearsoy,

Thank you so much for your insightful commentary.  I am curious to know your credentials that support your statements, how long have you worked for Verizon or with cellular networks?

#1.  Maybe I will come by your favorite dining establishment and take a bite of your meal since, well you still get 95%.  I don't believe that Verizon will accept 95% of my payment.

#2 Do a little more research, there are far more people experiencing the issue that you suggest.  Far more than your 2 to 3 pages.

#3 If I wanted a phone and just a phone I would have bought a plain old phone.  It is not a phone and Verizon themselves don't market as just a phone.  It is in fact a productivity tool, a media tool, and a whole lot more.

#4 Yes I have used ALL of those phones and then some. I have a dozen phones that are worthy of service, and probably 20 more that are too hold to run on today's networks.

In the future you would be better served to keep your ignorant comments to yourself.  I didn't ask for a troll I asked for some assistance with the issue at hand.

And I provided assistance, based on what you told us. And no, I am not a VZW employee. This is a peer to peer forum. Its unfortunate that you arent competent enough to realize that my comments were not ignorant. It was based on information that YOU the original poster, provided. However, I did know in advance that you would have something SMART to say seeing as how I shot down your post. Im sure others would have as well, but nobody else took the time to post on your post, because they know that you are just complaining for the heck of it. I hope you do indeed now pay your etfs and post. More bandwith for others texts to go through. Troll, INDEED! Clown.

I would have you text me and tell me how you REALLY feel, but it might not go through. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Question, has this problem only occured on smartphones? If so, I'm wondering if you've tried the oh so painful factory data reset, then leave the phone mostly "stock" to see if it happens? A basic tenent of troubleshooting is to try and find a common denominator...wondering if you have a preferred app that may be causing you issues.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes I had tried the factory reset without luck, that is actually why I had tried so many phones.  I didn't want to wipe my phone and have to set it all back up if it wasn't going to work.  I actually even suffered through using my kids "dumb phone" (just voice and text device) for a week on my line to see if it might be OS related with Android.  No luck.

I am kind of at a loss and really believe it may be a network or network capacity issue, but was hoping maybe I had missed something that somebody else had success with.

Thanks again for the constructive post, I appreciate it.

It's hard for a person to say: "This has never happened to me" because you might not know if you'd missed one...but as far as I know  it's never happened to me. What part of the country are you in? Huge population center?

I'm in Central Ohio living just outside of Columbus, but work downtown.  I too may not have noticed an occurrence here or there, but once we had noticed it happened then it became "did you get my last text", "no".  Then it draws your attention so you start watching.  It happens with other people too, not just between my wife and I.  For instance just last week my wife sent a text to her mom who lives 2.5 hours away.  After not hearing back for 2 days (not an urgent message) she sent a follow-up to her mom and found that the text never made it.

It's just disappointing because you never know anymore if somebody gets your message or not, or if they sent a reply that you never received.

I also see from your profile that you make a habit of this kind of behavior.

What exactly do you mean by this type of behavior? Sorry for the late reply from my commute home for the job you feel I don't have. Unfortunately I have an allergy from dumb posts that, when you try to help someone, the poster accuses you of being an employee or a troll or insensitive. Perhaps had you called Verizon to help they had too nice reps that Tried to "help". I'm being blunt on it but I'm the jerk. OK. I do that to all that are ignorant to policy and procedure.
