I have ringtones but why can i not set them for alarm, text and e-mail alerts....?

  Yea, I have noticed that it does not list the ringtones that you have on your phone if you use the stock apps. I will have to look more into this. I am not sure if you use market apps for texting, email, etc.

Does someone else know?

Create folders on the internal storage space called alarms and notifications. Copy the custom ringtones to those folders. Now you can select the tones from the standard selection lists.

More detailed instructions are buried in the community and available through a search.

  Ann154 is correct, although on my RAZR MAXX the 2 folders she mentioned were already there. I had put a ringtone in those folders as I was replying, but I did not see the ringtone in the list when I checked. I still had the phone connected to the computer, but once I disconnected it, they showed up in the list.
