If it were me, I would uninstall the drivers in the control panel, reconnect my Razr and let it install new drivers. Sometimes installing new drivers without removing the old drivers causes its own set of issues.

No the Motocast doesn't start up.  Phone is on, and I'm on a 64 bit Win 7 too.  I got a message today prompting me to update my Motocast Live, which I did, but it didn't affect anything when I plugged my phone in.  I left it plugged in for a while to see if that changed anything but no go.

I tried uninstalling the drivers and reconnecting the RAZR to let it install new drivers but I got the same message when I plugged it in: USB drive has malfunctioned and Windows doesn't recognize it Smiley Sad

Also, other than this problem, I've experienced no problems (yet, *fingers crossed*) with my RAZR after the ICS update

Ok, I reinstalled the drivers, restarted my computer and plugged the RAZR back in.  It wanted to download drivers (so obvi the motorola drivers from the site do jack shit) but immediately said unidentified USB and back to square one. BOLLUCKS!

You might need to do a Minor Cleaning on your Computer have a Local Computer Tech check it out and it might hurt to ask them to help you walk through the Loading of the Drivers. Also if these Drivers Take allot of space to work properly you might have bump up on some space to Get them loaded..

I appreciate your response, but that is not the case.  It doesn't matter which computer I plug it in to, the result is the same, Mac or PC.  I've tried three.  My laptop's memory is 85% free.  There is absolutely no reason why I should have to spend money on a computer technician because the ICS update screwed up the connection with my laptop.  I'm going to have to take my RAZR into the Verizon store and demand some accountability. This is so unacceptable, I can't even begin to describe my frustration and disappointment with Motorola and Verizon.

@ arianaboomboom - In advance I apologize if I repeat questions or suggest things you may have already done. That said. Unplug the USB cable. Uninstall any Moto software and reboot. Now let's take a look at Device Manager to make sure there isn't a 'bad' device listed. We need to get to Device Manager, shortcut key is Windows key + Pause/Break if that doesnt work click your start button(orb)and then Right Click on Computer, then in the popup context menu Left Click on Properties.

In the next window click on Device Manager. In Device Manager in the Menu bar click on View-->Show Hidden Devices.

In the list of devices are there any with a yellow exclamtion point? Is there a category for 'Other Devices' if so, what is the device name? Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers is there anything listed there that looks like it might be Moto device?

XT912 is how the Maxx is listed.
If all of that is clear close all the windows/menus we just opened. Go back to Start-->Computer and browse to Local Disk C:\ then Program Files - anything Moto related in there? If so, delete it. Next go to Program Files(X86), anything Moto in there? If so, delete it. If there were any files/folders related to Moto then reboot at this point.

Next go to http://www.motorola.com/consumers/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=bda09ec8009a0210VgnVCM1000008806b00aRCRD and download the motorol device manager software and install it.

Now, using the original cable that came with the phone, plug the phone into the computer. Make sure it is in Mass Storage Mode. What happens when you do these steps?

K. Mine loaded fairly Easy and i have Windows X.P. But with my Machine i'm kind of Limited on How much i can use. i was kind of pointing that direction when i suggested you might have it Checked out but since you tried Loading it on Three separate Machines and No Success then i would say there is something Fowling in your Device.  As those Drivers are in the Razr that set's up in your Computer. This could be possibility too When you Hook up your Razr it Could pull the Drivers off of the Internet and install it That Way. b33

Thanks so much for helping me out! So here's where I'm at: There was nothing in the Device Manager with a yellow exclamation point or Moto related, so I moved on to the Local Disk. I deleted the Motorola folder in Program Files no problem, but I ran into some trouble deleting the Motorola files in Program Files (X86).
Local Disk C:\ --> Program Files (X86) -- I have two folders Moto related -- Motorola and Motorola Mobility

I've deleted everything it let me delete, but it keeps saying that I can't delete the following files because they're in use (but I don't know how/why -- my phone is not connected to the laptop and no application was open on my laptop, not even Chrome).  I restarted my laptop twice too to see if that helped, but it didn't.

For the PST Service file, there were about ten other files that I was able to delete, but I couldn't delete that one.

Any suggestions on how to delete these? I think we may be getting closer to the root of the problem!
