Problem using voice to text

I have tried many different ways to get the voice to text to work and have had no luck.  It always puts the contact I am trying to text in the message field and the to: part is blank.  Any tips on how to get this to work?  I just got my phone Fri.

Hi sportsdadmi39,

I want your voice to text feature to work as intended (mine work perfectly!). Please ensure that you are following the instructions at this link http://goo.gl/DkxvB as this should work on your device.
Also make sure to use the native text messaging application, as using a 3rd party text messaging application may not work as intented. You can also select the TO field manually and then speak the name of your recipient. Let us know how it works.

Thanks for the reply.  No matter what I do or say it always skips the to: field and put the the name in the text box.
