Music isn't coming through connected Verizon store-bought headphones

Is there a special function I must set up to have the music come through the headphones I just bought from the Verizon store? They are plugged in to the phone but the music is coming through the phone speaker and not the headphones. Help!

If you are talking Bluetooth, be sure they support A2DP music profile. But it sounds like you are using wired ones since you speak of them being plugged in.

Is this happening with more than one program?  I'm trying to make sure it's not a software issue.

If it is,  I would reboot - it covers a multitude of issues.  Just turn it off and on again.

Still no joy, look into the jack with a flashlight. It should not be white.  It should be dark or you'll see a metal connector.  I had it happen to me once where a piece of pocket lint got pushed down there and the headphone could not make a proper connection.   If this is the case you must be very cautious as it's easy to break the fragile metal connectors. Don't just go digging around in there.  What my husband did was use a very fine drill bit (hand held, of course!) and gently twirl it so the lint spun up on it.  Then he could pull it out.

Good luck!

Cant really answer that one but some have said the jack itself on phone breaks easy and disconnects when plugged in

You could be right Sally and I use rubber plugs I bought off Ebay for Ipad and been using for all my phones because it is 3.5 for all the newer phones. Got a package of 10 and it is good idea to keep jack input clean

I had a similar problem to headphones not being played through when I was using Skype, But all I had to do was unplug and re-plug in my head phones and it worked fine. Are your headphones fully plugged in, or do you have a case that might prevent them from doing so?

Thanks everyone! Sally, you were correct. There must have been a small piece of lint in the jack input on the phone. All is fine and the headphones are working just great! At first, Verizon customer service said it may be a defective jack input on the phone, but we were happy to find it was simply a dirty input.

Thanks again everyone!
